Even if Kobe opts out its not like he's going anywhere.

I hope he signs with LA for the max allowable

I don't wish injury on him, but if he did get hurt, that contract would be a big weight on them financially for years

How much longer does Kobe play?

Will he try his hand at baseball or soccer ala jordan?
Will he want to retire on top? Or hang around the NBA forever?

What would be really funny would be if Buss was like "Yes! Now I can sign some other self-inflated player for the max. Hey Leeeebbbbrrrrooooonnnnn......Ohhhh Lebrooooooonnnnnn.  Here Lebron. Good boy. Come and get it"

Then no other team can afford to give Kobe what he makes now and he ends up playing for Toronto for 5 mill less than he has now.

Kobe is overrated.
When will Pau get his due?

Lakers post-Shaq/ pre-Pau: 0.49 winning pct, two first round exits

Lakers post-Shaq/ with Pau: 0.74 winning pct, two Finals appearances.

Whats the winning percentage with Pau and no Kobe? Obviously there arent much stats for that - but it's Kobe's team, and Pau gets plenty of props - from even Kobe.

Kobe now is a better player than his first few seasons with shaq.

Agreed.  I was comparing the Lakers after Shaq and breaking it into the pre and post Pau Gasol era.  Did Kobe really improve all that much from the 2006-2007 season to the 2007-2008 season to make the difference between the Lakers being bounced in Round 1 to making the Finals? Or was it the addition of Pau Gasol?  Probably a little of the first, but mostly the addition of Pau...

If Kobe really wants to win more titles and cement his legacy, he'll opt out, leave money on the table, and give the Lakers the room to sign and/or trade for good players to surround him with

also, if he's smart (if this is even an option under the CBA) he'll build in as many opt-out clauses as he can so he can always hold their feet to the fire to keep bringing in players he likes

shoot, he should get the title of assistant GM at this point too

i was surprised i had to scroll down this far to find someone that posted this - but not surprised at who finally did.

God bless and good night!
