He needs to go.

The Celtics got lucky that he didn't implode like he has in the past.

But, he gave the Celtics nothing on the court.

Nothing on the court, history of imploding...

What am I missing?

Explain this history of imploding you are talking about.

I'm fine with keeping Marbury, especially if we keep House. Marbury's drive and dish game made Eddie a much better player.

Agree and I also think individually he'll play much much better.  I don't see how you can evaluate someone realistically when they haven't played in 1.5 years....
He played defense and that sold me.  The rest will come back around, not the star part but he'll make a good backup...

Did you not watch him in NY?

Did you not see how fast NJ, Phoenix try and dump him?  (not to mention how they improved after he left)

Steph would probably be better next year.  I don't think you can lose your jumper that fast (a lot of people were saying that he lost a step, but the primary problem was teams were defending him like Rondo and, in response, he shot worse than Rondo).  It's just he doesn't fit too well.  We already have 2 other back-ups signed at that spot and none of them, including Steph, can really switch over to the 2 guard.  We could still use him, but it would probably be around 10 mpg, and we'd probably have to utilize the iffy Steph-House combo more than would be wise to make best use of our bench.

There are three other options that make more sense.
First, try and get a playmaker at another position so we can continue to use House at the 1.  Grant Hill would be great.  Second option would be to add more shooters, especially at the big positions, too space the floor better off the bench and make Pierce more effective in a pseudo 6th man role, where he gets subbed early and then comes back to anchor the bench scoring.  A third option would be to add a big PG who can defend 2s and penetrate on offense.  These aren't very common and they're usually pretty expensive.  Keyon Dooling would be nice if we could get him in a trade.  Marbury, or any other small playmaking guard, should be the fourth option.

Too bad we can't use that line up against a ton of teams, nor in the playoffs where we'd get killed defensively and on the glass.

The effectiveness of Marbury/House line up is overstated.

Marbury is an amazing backup. He will be 5x better with a celtic training camp under his belt.

I'm sure people have mentioned it before but Marbury played less than a half a season. He was not at full strength, and did not have his rhythm. After a season he will be getting to the hole more frequently than he did last year. His jumper should also improve. He has always been a good passer (sometimes he doesn't do it enough). This year he showed he can actually play pretty good defense. If he can put the defense together with the shooting of old he isn't just a good back up point he is a top 5 sixth man in the league.

What Doc really meant is Marbury Absolutely Being Considered for the minimum and if we have an open spot.

I'm with most people when I say I was all for Marbury to do well when we aquired him. He came in with the right additute but gave us next to nothing. He's washed up.

What Doc said at the end of the year was than whether Davis cam back depended on what was available to him, and whether Marbury came back was dependent on who else was available to us. He's not the first choice, but they won't rule him out if nothing better comes along.

So you really think we still would have won Game 5 WITHOUT Marbury? If you think so, you're sadly mistaken. He gave us the big push when we needed it the most in the 4th qtr.

And about Marbs returning next year; I feel that he'll be waaay better this upcoming season with a full training camp with us, especially with the way he played towards the end of the Playoffs.

Starbury can still play. He has slowed down a bit but I don't think he's washed up.

The team cancer/selfish player talk made him tentative offensively during his stint with us. A full training camp will do him good. Besides, it would be cheap to sign him.

I watched about 90ish games of him playing for the Knicks. And I have been a fan since he played for Georgia Tech.

He did not implode in NY, so point not taken. They took on Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. D'Antoni who is a choke coach who disliked him in phoenix.

In NJ he was their best player by far, but the team was going no where they traded for some young guys. Phoenix to NY had more to do with the fact that Marbury has been trying to get to the Knicks since he joined the league.

But whatever you need to tell yourself at night to justify hating another human being you have never met :).

Find me one player who was off for a year after being benched and coming off an injury that required surgery, joined a team with 20 games left, and made a big impact off the bench.

Please. I am BEGGING YOU WITH ALL OF MY HEART!

Let me guess what you mean by " I was all for Marbury to do well when we acquired him". That means never liked him before the Celtics but now that he's on my team I guess I want him to succeed. Then when he didn't play well you reverted to your original opinion of him. I think that characterizes how a lot of Boston fans felt about him, "OK I'll give him a chance but if he doesn't do great I can start hating him again". I'm not just saying you, this is a notion held by a lot of people.
