Does anyone else think it's NUTS that we're even discussing trading Rondo?

I'm honestly shocked that people are even considering the idea of trading Rajon Rondo.  This kid is 22 years old, already has started for a championship team, practically averaged a triple double in the first round of the playoffs this year, and is and should be our franchise point guard for at least the next five years.

It makes NO sense to me to trade this guy when he hasn't even reached his peak yet.  Think about it, he hasn't reached his peak yet and has already won a championship, his stats are improving every year, and he's only been in the league for three years.

His defense and steals can only improve along with his jumpshot which has been massively improving since his rookie year.

Rajon Rondo is on his way to being the best point guard in the eastern conference and you want to trade him?  It just doesn't make sense to me.  It's no secret that this team is getting older and their championship window is closing for now...why trade away the future of this team?  I especially don't understand why you would trade him to get younger.  He's already only 22 and he's established himself has an excellent point guard.

Yes I agree it's nuts. These trades I'm hearing where we get a pick, a good player and some bit parts are absurd.

He's a top 7 or so point guard now and in two years he's top 4. He's the 2nd or third most valuable player on the team

People need to start thinking about what you could get in a trade for Chris Paul or Derron Williams, Derrik Rose, or at least Tony Parker, and approach it that way instead of approaching it like he's Mike Conley or Russel Westbrook or some decent prospect or something

It is nuts, but that's the byproduct of the off-season.  People get bored and read too much into rumors.  People that come up with these absurd trades that involve any of the starters easily forget just how inept this franchise was from 1994-2007 (save for a couple of decent seasons sprinkled in here and there).

You simply don't blow up the window because it's small.

If people want to talk about trading Rondo I want to get back something proven and then be compensated for the loss of one of the top 5 pgs in the league. I'd seriously rather get back something like Steve Blake than Rubio. Blake is excellent on fundamentals and very smart.

I don't like nearly as much the young pg Conley talk, or Rubio, or Jennings, or T Evans, or guys like Iverson or Marbury as a starter. I just can't take that.

Jameer Nelson I'd consider but I don't think the Magic and Celts will trade with each other any time soon.

I'd consider Delonte and great pieces but the Cavs don't have any and also won't trade with us.

If any of our starting five were with other teams, we would be knocking ourselves out trying to figure out how to get them!  I think it would be crazy to consider trading any of them.  We want to make the team better, not worse.  Not one of them is over the hill yet, and they do have at least one more championship in them.  We need a better bench, and you don't trade a starter for a bench player.  You also don't disrupt team chemistry on an enormously successful team for a move that doesn't immediately and positively improve your team.  Why go sideways, when, in reality, you might be going backwards?

i trust danny. i love that he's exploring everything. danny will absolutely trade paul pierce if it helps the franchise. he would have traded bird,mchale,parrish. i believe that. no player. not even larry bird is more important than the team.

Chris Paul and Deron Williams are much, much better basketball payers than Rajon Rondo. Perhaps someday, Rondo can reach their caliber, but he sure as hell isn't there yet, and chances are good he never will reach such a state.

The main reason I think its nuts is because i think we already have ray allen and his contract to trade for a future. We don't need to give up rondo. And we shouldn't. Teams can go for decades without finding a franchise point guard. He shouldn't be easy to dismiss.

Trading Rondo is way too risky.  With his contract, you can only get back another young player (which wouldn't make sense for either team, since we don't have a great alternative at the 1) or a draft pick, which poses an incredible risk to the team's championship chances for the Big 3's tenure. 

The only deal that makes sense is a Ray/Rondo combo for a superstar that doesn't play the 3 or 4 (D-Wade, Chris Paul, maybe Chauncey Billups).  Otherwise it makes no sense for us to deal our proven project player for a totally unproven one when we have a 1 or 2 year window, without the cap flexibility to have any real margin of error. 

The proposed #4 and Hawes or Thompson for Rondo almost made me feel sick.  A rookie and a raw big man for a border-line all-star PG as the Big 3 are running out of time.  Not only is the timing bad, but the talent coming in isn't that promising.  Rondo's shown the capability of top 5 pg play for extended periods of time.  The draft pick has shown nothing as impressive and Hawes hasn't stood out as anything but not as overpaid as the rest of his teammates on one of the crappiest teams in the league.

Chris Paul, YES!  Might end up being the greatest point guard of all time.  But Deron Williams, really?  Rondo is already a more creative passer than Williams, a better rebounder than Williams, faster than Williams, a better defender than Williams, and once he develops a consistent jump shot, Rondo will be a better player all around than Williams.

I don't think it's crazy at all. Financially it makes a lot of sense.

If you keep Rondo, when Ray comes off the books you're probably going to have to let Ray walk and give Rondo his old contract.

Or you acquire someone who you think is a great player, like Rubio, and then are allowed to keep Ray or a similar talent.

Moops, it's my opinion, not homerism. If you dont agree that is fine but you might be a little more tactful, especially considering your 6 posts on celticsblog so far. I think you might be a little surprised at what Rondo does this year and in the future as well. His development has been a little slower then Paul's but Rondo has made huge leaps in a short time.

Is there any reason to believe that Rondo *will* develop a jump shot?  What if he's never able to?
