I'm honestly shocked that people are even considering the idea of trading Rajon Rondo.  This kid is 22 years old, already has started for a championship team, practically averaged a triple double in the first round of the playoffs this year, and is and should be our franchise point guard for at least the next five years.

It makes NO sense to me to trade this guy when he hasn't even reached his peak yet.  Think about it, he hasn't reached his peak yet and has already won a championship, his stats are improving every year, and he's only been in the league for three years.

His defense and steals can only improve along with his jumpshot which has been massively improving since his rookie year.

Rajon Rondo is on his way to being the best point guard in the eastern conference and you want to trade him?  It just doesn't make sense to me.  It's no secret that this team is getting older and their championship window is closing for now...why trade away the future of this team?  I especially don't understand why you would trade him to get younger.  He's already only 22 and he's established himself has an excellent point guard.

Just doesn't make sense to me.

I think it's nuts we're discussing trading any of our starters.  As the LA/Orlando crapfest is proving, this Celtics team could easily take either team.  I don't know why you'd want to break up what is clearly the best starting 5 in the NBA.

I think some people in this board have been spoiled by our recent success into thinking that just any combination of talent can win an NBA title.  I encourage those people to think about recent teams like Webber's Kings or Nash's Suns that had a bunch of great players, but never even made the NBA Finals.  Or look at Nowitzki's Mavs, Ewing's Knicks, Barkley's Suns, or Malone and Stockton's Jazz.  All of these teams prove that just because you do "the right thing" and assemble good talent, doesn't mean you'll have what it takes to win a title.

We know we have what it takes to win an NBA Final.  To want to blow that up is absolutely insane.

We won one title, it's pretty much time to rebuild.

First of all...are you serious?

Second of all...even if you are, why would you trade the one player on the team that you can still rebuild around?

My thoughts exactly. The way their games complement each other and their chemistry will be extremely hard to replicate. I don't want to gamble with that .

Yeah Rondo has areas he needs to work but he's a great fit for this team and there's no better PG out there to be had. Honestly I can't imagine any trade involving the starters that will improve the team next season.  Players out there who could provide the team with comparable talent and skills probably won't get traded to us. And even if they did they might disrupt the cohesiveness that makes this team so amazing.

Trading Rondo is ludicrous and discussions about trading him are so too. I said it before and I meant it, I wouldnt trade him straight up for Chris Paul or Deron Williams and not just because of Rondo's current favorable salary.

Guys who can control a game in so many ways just do not come along often and rarely at the age of 22. You could make a good argument that Rondo influences a game more then KG does, although it may be a hard argument to win. As Rondo's jump shot improves and so does the rest of his game there will be a lot of talk about him not only being the best pg in the league but quite possibly one of the best of the last 10 years. The guy looks to me to have that kind of talent. Maybe that's a stretch but project his development out another 4 years and see what you think. As Magic proved, you dont have to be the best shooter or scorer to be the leagues best point.

So rebuilding is trading away our best young player?

I never think its nuts to explore what kind of value you can get for players, and see if you can improve the team for both the short and long term.  I have a feeling there is not a deal out there that makes sense to give up Rondo (or Ray for that matter), but I don't think its nuts to see what is out there.

Agreed. It's totally nuts.  I love the way he plays, flaws and all. It just wouldn't be fair if he had a jump shot.

99% of the time I'd agree with you.  However, when you have a chemistry like we do and a limited time to utilize it, I'd say it's nuts to mess with it now.  If KG and PP were 25, it'd be a different story.  But they're not.  So let's ride this thing out.

Agreed. You never know when you're going to find a GM as hopelessly in love with Rondo as some of the posters here.

I wish that person was George Shinn.
