Doc was just on PTI and they asked hime if he thinks the Celtics will make any major moves. He said he didn't think so that he would just like to add a big man . Let's hope it is a potential star big man .

Then they were playing odds and asked them the chances they thought Steve Nash would end his career with the New York Knicks .

Wilbon said" He won't finish his career with the knicks, it's going to be with the Boston Celtics" . The funny thing is earlier in the show Wilbon said he played golf with Doc Rivers the other day. HMMMMMMM

Amare and Nash coming to Boston? lol

Doc should want a big man, but he also needs a very good backup wing. Ray Alen and Pierce were toast by the 2nd round this yr. Next yr, they'll be a yr older. Doc's gotta significantly reduce their minutes.

I actually think this could happen.  :)

Ray Allen   (expiring)
Rondo
Perk
Scals   (expiring)
Tony     (expiring)

for

Barbosa
Nash
Amare
and the #14 pick

Trade ID #5108895   real gm trade checker

With the 14th pick Ainge drafts Nash's replacement. Phoenix puts themselves in a great spot (with Shaq's deal also expiring) to get in on the FA class of 2010.

One of these point guards will be there at the #14 spot.

Curry
Jennings
Maynor
Lawson

If Rondo does get replaced by Nash, can you imagine what Boston-Phoenix games would be like? Rondo always has career games against Nash, but with the added chip on his shoulder... even KG won't be able to stop him.

Bos sends: Rondo, Ray, Perk, Scal

Pho sends" Nash , Barbosa, Stoudamire,

I am going to compare players by talent

Nash VS Ray

At this point in their careers Nash and Ray are pretty even in age, talent and numbers.

Last season Nash still averaged better than his career avg's.
Nash avg'd 15.7 PPG, 9.7APG 92%FT'S , 50% FG'S and 43% 3PFG'S

Those are still terrific numbers he is putting up and he gives us the same quality outside shooter as Ray was in our starting lineup. You know he is going to be hungry for a title so the drive is going to be there, and he is in a contract year with a 12 MIL expiring contract.

Winner = Tie

Rondo VS Stoudamire

This is the centerpiece of this trade. Rondo is a jump shot away from being a franchise player and Stoudamire is some defensive toughness away from being a top 5 NBA Player. Stoudamire is easily a top player in the low post on offense. Averages 9 RPG and is still only 26 YEARS OLD! He even shoots his free throws well, shooting 83% in 2008-09.

Because I think defensive toughness is easier to learn than a consistent jump shot, and because I think Stoudamire is a top 5 NBA talent I have to make the trade off between him and Rondo.

Winner: Stoudamire slightly

Perk VS Barbosa

Perk is a great Defensive minded C and a great team player . He should make a few All Defensive teams before his career is over, but he is never going to be a great offensive player. Has has a championship ring , so that counts for something

Barbosa is a very good shooter 40% 3P% and 82% FT shooter for his career. He isn't a great one on one defender, but within a team defense like the Celtics could be good enough. Still only 26 years old and an explosive scorer.

Winner : Perk Slightly

I think this a pretty even trade

BOS 2009-10 Roster

PG: Nash      / Marbury / Pruitt
SG: Barbosa   / Walker / House
SF: PP        / Grant Hill(Vet Min) / Walker
PF: KG        / BBD    /  Stoudamire / Powe(IR)
 C: Stoudamire/ Gortat or ZaZA(MLE)

Pheonix 2009-10 Roster

PG: Rondo
SG: Ray
SF: Richardon
PF: Perk
 C: Shaq

What makes you think Amare, Nash, and Barbosa would be effective players on a defensive-oriented team like the Celtics?  We'd have to become a much more offensive-minded team to use them most effectively, I think, and that would not make us a better team.

Also, it seems very unlikely that the Suns would elect to hold onto Shaq and get rid of Amare.  If either of them is going in the off-season, it seems like it'd be Shaq.

We get worse defensively in both the front court and the backcourt with this trade, even though we get a lot better offensively.  That might be good for some teams, but I think the Celtics are a team that has gotten success through defense, and Doc is better as a coach of a defensive, slower paced team.

Also, I think the #14 would have to be a part of this trade for the C's to consider it...we would have to get something for the future out of this trade especially considering we're losing Rondo and Perk, both of whom promise to be strong starter caliber players for quite some time.

Ray Allen is a terrible defender but looks good in the Rivers/Thibodeau system. I think the defense would go down a bit but nothing the offense would not counter.

Thats the thing if KG gets a hold of Stoudamire, I can garuntee you he is going to learn how to play defense. Defense is a want to and with KG in his ear every day he is going to want to!

Also we would have to sign a legit backup C like ZAZA or Gortat

I agree with you about Ray, but Steve Nash and Amare are both definitely much worse defensively than their counterparts in the proposed trade.  Barbosa is probably about the same as Ray or maybe even a bit better.

There is no PG on any of the Elite teams in the east, that I would fear Nash going up against defensively in the playoffs. Jameer Nelson and Mo Williams have some quickness, but not the kind of Rondo quickness I would be worried about against Nash

Hello! If this trade went down A.I. or T-Mac be our new starting shooting guards via free-agency because there would be A huge enticing starting SG spot to fill. Full MLE & it would be a done deal as Danny loves A.I. & T-Mac knowing Doc's system being that he played for him in Orlando. Both are Championship starving players & would see this team as maybe their last shining moment to win the Gold Trophy!

Any trade where a championship caliber team trades three fifths of their starting lineup is not a good one.
