Allstar: either tie or Rondo. Marbury is a lot less likely than Rondo to go to any all-star games as a Celtic.

  If Marbury's main issue was rust and he can shake a lot of it off he can be a better scorer (more likely better outside shooter) than Rondo, and a better ft shooter. I don't think he's close anywhere else.

I wouldn't give Mar "scoring." he lived taking the ball the rack in his day, and he couldn't get to the rim.

that for me was the biggest disappointment. I thought at least he would be taking it hard to the rim while he was here and finishing and getting to the line.

Did people see something with Marbury that I missed last year? I was all for him to do well last year, but he pretty much was terrible. Can't shoot well anymore, not a good passer and lost a step or two.

I'd only bring him back for the min. Other than that he can go on his way. House is a better backup PG.

But Rondo is a legit young player himself. Its hard to trade young talent after you've seen him win with your team and become an borderline all-star at his postion.

The title of the thread, and the first post, is about whether we think marbury starting is a good idea. That's what most people are taking issue with.

This also assumes that we don't think rondo is a legit young player, and thus should trade him for one. I would trade rondo for alot of things, rudy gay and no replacement PG is not one of them.

Rondo might never be as good as 24-27 year old era steph, but that marbury is dead and gone, and he's not coming back.

That said, i wouldn't mind steph off the bench, assuming he improves his offense and comes cheap.

That Marbury was a poor defender, wasn't nearly as efficient as Rondo, and was a team cancer.

Rondo needs to add a jumper so he's not an offensive liability in a 7 game series, once he does that he'll have surpassed Marbury at his peak.

I thought I was the only one who wasn't drinking Rondo's kool aid. I can understand why he is of a value, he feels a need & complements Ray, paul, and KG well. But he is not a franchise player, you can't have a franchise player who can't shoot. On the other hand Rudy Gay Can be a franchise player.

Marbury is in as good if not better shape than he was in when he was 28-29 years old. He hasn't lost much of anything. He just didn't play for a long time.

I will accept your point if you do me one thing. Find me one other player to compare his situation to. Find a player who;

- Got stuck with a horrible team with 0 chemistry that had awful people working the front office.

- Had their father who was a big deal in NYC to a lot of kids and adults who grew up, die while at one of their games.

- Then ended the season so they could have surgery on their ankle.

- Come back to a team that asked if you could come off the bench because they wanted to go in another direction. Agree to said role.

- Then found out they had no intention to play you at all, because the Joke of a coach disliked you when he coached you on a previous team.

- Was thrown under the bus by the entire organization because they felt he hurt their sexual harassment defense for the team President.

- Broke down and got psychological help because of anxiety/depression.

- Came back to join a team with 20ish game left in the season.


Deal? Find me a comparable situation so I can see how you obtained this knowledge that he has lost it.

I'm indifferent towards Rondo, but I firmly believe he's not the next franchise player. He's not close to Pierce or any other Celtic great and never will be imo. As for Marbury being the starting PG....idk...i'd love to see him play a game or two with KG if Stephon comes back. I wanted to watch those two play pretty bad, but KG had the injury.

It's difficult, but not impossible.  Gary Payton wasn't much of a shooter, either.
