Marbury Celtics Starting PG

Many of you are probably laughing your butts off at that notion, but don't be surprised if Ainge isn't looking at this. Forget what you saw during his short time with the C's, dude just wasn't ready & Doc didn't do him a favor rushing him in. For his Career (13 season)

This guy is a 2time allstar, and 2time all NBA 3rd time (Pierce did it once it was last season). He already showed us that he is a team player by accepting his role which was very limited. He's only 32YO, probably has a good 3-4 years remaining  (Kidd is 36 and still going). From what we saw, Marbury was rusty as hell. His quickness & passing was still there. Being with the Celtics a full season and learning the playbook Marbury Can lead this team.

FT: Marbury
Scoring: Marbury
Allstar: Marbury

Marbury downfall is his D. But what was surprising to me when the celtics needed stops Doc always inserted Marbury? I guess he is not that bad after all. How many more years are going to wait for Rondo to "Develope a Shot" it might not happen. Whats is his use if teams always sag off of him, that just makes Paul's, and Rays life hell. If Ainge can get a legit player or borderline allstar (like Rudy Gay) Bye Bye Rondo. Having 4 Allstars in one team and a guy like Rudy gay (Franchise player) off the bench. We have to get better if that means sacrificing Rondo by making this team better. We have needs and Rondo is an enticing player. We can worry about our future later, We can't let this opportunity have 3 HOF'ers on one team. Its now or never.

i have enough faith in ainge that he would never let this happen. oh and the passing (and handle for that matter) is'nt even close.

OK, now this has officially jumped the shark.  No offense, but I am happy to discuss trading Rondo for the right package and all that...but if Stephon Marbury is the starting PG going into next season, I might have to give up my tickets.  

I am all for bringing him back as a backup, but he just is not starting material anymore, physically, and especially not mentally.

rushing him in? we had 20 games left before the playoffs....Steph got every opportunity he needed, to the determent of the team at times,  and he failed.

All luck to him as our backup PG or at his future place of employment, he came in and was a good solider. He is not the guy you think he is anymore. 3 wasted seasons, both on and of the court in NYC, have ended that.

also, jason kidd is "still going" in the way that my old car from HS is still going. it runs, but its not anywhere near how it was.

32 is not young, as you propose. ITs the twilight of a PG's career, moreso one that's been out of the league for 2 years. he has maybe 2-4 years left of being a productive bench player.

based on steph's performance in his time here, which is all i'm going to judge him on since his previous body of work was 2 full years ago when he was 30, yes, that would be awful.

He had the worst shooting percentage of any NBA guard this season, and one of the worst TO/A averages as well. He was an  failure outside of 3-4 games. He also can't defend slasher PG's, as he struggles to keep anyone in front of him and is undersized.

Rondo:

2008: 77 games played, 10.6 ppg, 49.2% FG%, 4.2 rpg, 5.1 apg, 1.7 spg, 1.9 tpg
2009: 80 games played, 11.9 apg, 50.5% FG%, 5.3 rpg, 8.2 apg, 1.9 spg, 2.6 tpg


Playoff stats the past two seasons:

Starbury:

2008:  DNP
2009:  3.7 ppg, 30.3% FG%, 0.9 rpg, 1.8 apg, 0.07 spg, 0.8 tpg

Rondo:

2008: 10.2 ppg, 40.7% FG%, 4.1 rpg, 6.6 apg, 1.7 spg, 1.8 tpg

Rondo has simply been a significantly better player than Starbury recently.  I can't imagine that Starbury would be made a starter under any circumstances barring injury.

I wouldn't even say Starbury is the better scorer at this stage in their careers.  He's a better shooter, but he's not even great at that.
