Well its official. John Hollinger is a Boston hater.

I wrote a pretty extensive fanpost about this here, but just to sum up:

Factors involved: Total wins, Playoff wins, Playoff Series won, Chips won, All-stars, Intangibles

Total score according to Hollinger's formula:

LAL: 4880
BOS: 4735

What an idiot.

I know that is a simple minded response, but that is for a simple minded ranking.

Mike and Mike were discussing something like this early this week.

Laker or Yankees as the best North American profesional teams.

At least until someone ripped the Lakers arguement appart with the Celtics winning more titles, being 9-2 in the finals against the Lakers and having the best title winning streak of all pro sports in North America.

Then he put the Lakers 4th behind the Canadians.

I think it was Bob Picosi,

Idiot.

All I need to say is total world championships and head to head record against the "vaunted" Lakers organization in the Championship round.

Trademarks superstars, huh?  Great factor to consider.   ::)

Please correct me if i'm wrong, but the Lakers have been to the Finals 30 times right? They have 14 rings... that means they are 14/30 aka less then  .500 to win a championship. Sounds like a pampered team that is just allowed to waltz to the finals and expected to LOSE each year if you ask me.....

What I don't understand is the "intangibles" category.  This is completely subjective, and yet the Lakers get +150, and the Celtics get +50, despite being the most successful team in NBA history.  The Celtics tradition and history is every bit as successful as the Lakers.

For the rest of it, who cares about playoff wins and losses, in terms of evaluating a franchise?  All that matters is the last game of the playoff season, and there, the Celtics have the most wins.

More than that, the 9-2 against them head to head and the 11 in 13 years.  Who will every dominate like that ever again?

Wow.

This is an absolutely ridiculous proposition by Hollinger. Congratulations, you have Jack Nicholson. We get it.
"Let me call him," Floyd said.

The man shook his head. "O.J. doesn't give out his cell," he said. "He'll call you."

That was my major bone to pick. I mean I could understand if both teams clocked in at 100 or 150 or something, but Boston only gets 50, and LA gets 150?

So if Jack Nicholson watches your games, you get a pass?

My theory was that it was because LA lost 100 points for the relocation.

Jack Nicholson's three Oscars and twelve nominations are too much for us to contend with. Donnie Wahlberg needs to pick it up.

EDIT: Once again, HDM and IP beat me to the punch. Need more coffee.

Yeah, is he counting Minneapolis?  What a crock.

Not to mention the fact that 5 of the Fakers' titles came in Minnesota before the shot clock and goaltending...   ::)  Anything that happened before the shot clock and goaltending shouldn't count anyway.

Complete and utter drivel.

Assigning point values to intangibles, wins and losses, and everything is just silly. Especially when Hollinger himself repeatedly preaches that its not just W/Ls but point differential and efficiency that is the best predictor of team strength.

Plus in the end the point values are so arbitrary its easy to game the system to get the results you want and have it be "fair". Just a stupid article.

TP to indeed for making a fan post about this.
