I don't know if anybody has posted this before, but I was just checking and someone referred to this rumor in realgm:

"Boston offered us tony allen and Jr Giddens for Green verbally...not sure what that does for us. Probably nothing."

http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=911954

I guess this is one of the million rumors we will get this month, but I thought it would give some food for thought. I imagine this sort of Crotor thing, or one of those posters which seem to know things that the rest don't...but hey...

Yeah, I'd make that trade in a heart beat.

I'm literally shaking right now.

In all seriousness, what does this do for us? Garbage in, garbage out.

Yeah, I'd make that trade in a heart beat.

I would do that at the end of the offseason, if they can't get anything better for their expiring contracts, but it seems like a very lateral move to be making this early in the offseason, unless there is more to it.

As much as I want to get rid of Tony, I just am not sure Green is that much better...and he has an extra year on his contract.

So if they can't do better by September, then sure, lets bring in Green, and hope he is at least a little smarter than Tony, but until then, I would hope they can concentrate on finding someone who helps the team more.

I see this as a move to free up a roster spot.

I think it's a good move for both teams.

It doesn't make us better, but it doesn't really hurt us either.

Yeah, looking at his stats, they weren't as good as I was expecting.  I watch a lot of Sixers games, though, and Green has a knack for coming up big.  That's more anecdotal than anything else, but I do see him as a significant upgrade over Tony.

You're right, though, that it probably makes sense to see what else is out there.

Does he play sf for them a lot? He's not any bigger than TA so I don't see him helping with the backup sf situation.

No, he's almost exclusively a SG.

I think he's strictly a SG, and not a net upgrade from Tony.

Meh, Celtics lose the two best players in this deal.

Not a fan of Willie Green, not at all. Not a rotation caliber player in the NBA.

Trade doesn't do much but keep TA off the court for the Celtics (which is a positive I guess)

The thing is, Tony can look pretty good in smaller sample-sizes.  Its really only when you watch him consistently submarine the team with his boneheaded play that you understand how bad he is.  It could be the same thing with Green...although hopefully not, if the C's are in fact considering bringing him in.

Trust me, I've watched the two players each play a ton.  Green is substantially better in my opinion than Tony.

Well, then I definitely feel better about this rumor.  But I still hope they will at least TRY to do better before pulling the trigger on a deal like this.

Gosh ... Green is even on the books for the 2010/11 season. A very bad trade for the C's.

Great deal for Phily.
