Meh, Celtics lose the two best players in this deal.

Not a fan of Willie Green, not at all. Not a rotation caliber player in the NBA.
Gosh ... Green is even on the books for the 2010/11 season. A very bad trade for the C's.

Great deal for Phily.

First, I doubt the trade is true.  If it is, though, why do you think Danny is proposing it, if Green isn't an NBA-caliber player?  If something like this happens, I'm going to trust Danny's judgment.

If played properly -- as instant offense off the bench -- I think Green would excel.  He's not starter quality, but he would do fine as a bench guy.

The guy started 60 games on a playoff team last year; I'm not sure how he's worse than Giddens.

Wasn't Willie Green the guy who got injured during contract negotiations and lost out on a lot of money?  Seems fitting he would be traded for Tony.

I think Willie Green is an NBA caliber player. I just don't think he's a rotation caliber player. A solid 12-15th guy on the roster.

Just because Green started a bunch of games doesn't make him good at the role. He was a terrible starter. And, I don't think he's good enough to be the first wing off the bench, and see him as a below average fourth wing in the rotation. Thus, a non-rotation caliber NBA player.

  • Is Giddens better than Green today? Can't imagine that he is.
  • Will Giddens be better than Green in two years? I like those odds, and would much rather take that chance than take on Green.
Anyway, I don't think there's anything to this rumour. It be a terrible deal for Boston, I can't imagine Danny thinking this is a good idea, he's getting robbed blind. Nobody is giving up an expiring contract for Willie Green.

I tend to agree with Roy, that Green would be an upgrade for us. (Unless, like Who, someone buys in big to Giddens' potential. And, hey, I'm all for optimism and faith in Ainge's nose for finding back-of-the-draft talent.)

Compared to T.A., Green is equally aggressive on defense, but less mistake prone. Same story on the offensive end.

Willie doesn't score quite as efficiently, fewer trips to the line?, but he's far, far better on the catch and shoot. T.A. posted a 28% eFG last season on jumpers...

The biggest knock on him is that he doesn't reliably rebound or make plays for others. He's offense off the bench. And I like him, though more alongside Rajon (or Rubio? Ha.) than Eddie House.

I just don't think he really fills one of our biggest needs. Isn't he going to be competing for minutes with Eddie?

a player thats proven to be mediocre at best, for one that is in the same boat... but then a player whose played very well in D-League but hasn't shown anything in the bigs (positive or negative)

i don't trade JR in this... maybe if they throw in more and we give scal instead.

Not a huge fan of Green, but we definitely don't give up the two best players in the deal. Giddens is probably the best in the deal, though, by default, because he hasn't been proven not to be a good player.
Go Celtics.

agreeance. way too soon IMO to move JR. not until we know more about the kid.

Random aside on Giddens, but remember that he's not really a kid; he'll be 25 this season.

didn't post this on the front page because I can't confirm the source

that said, I agree with most others - I'd rather wait and see what else we could get for our expiring deals before settling on this apparent sideways move

After Gerald Green, anyone with the name Green puts a bad taste in my mouth.

I don't think what WE know is relevant. If the team has lost interest in him, then go ahead and move him. I would see no need to pay someone the team has no faith in.

I agree with those who feel its a lateral move, at best.

I'd definitely wait and see rather than jump on this.

Danny and Wyc are all about getting thugs out of our locker room. I say they'd do this trade. The death threat in Chicago during the playoffs wasn't a good situation.
