  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
BOS trades: Ray Allen, Brian Scalabrine, Tony Allen, Gabe Pruitt
NYK trades: David Lee (S&T), Wilson Chandler, Chris Duhon, Jared Jeffries, Eddy Curry

We get three good players in return for taking on two lousy contracts.  I'm not sure if I would do this trade, but I'm inclined to say yes (and if I did so, I'd tell Curry to stay home until his contract expired.)

Not enough for Ray, especially with the bad contracts.

Genuis, I'm calling Danny.

Clearly Ray's 51 scoring game against Chicago doesn't prove much. Go back to Milwaukee Ray. Boston fans don't appreciate you.

We'd have some really tough financial issues in the next two years as we try to extend Rondo, but it would completely solve most of our pressing bench problems, with Lee taking all the spare 4/5 minutes, Duhon backing up Rondo (though he struggled in a backup role in Chicago), Chandler the backup 3, Jeffries capable of playing some defensive 3 and 4 if we need him. Unfortunately, it gives us a glaring hole at the 2. How do we fill it?
Go Celtics.

Lee is another short PF.   I like Lee, but not for Ray.

And one of these player are going to have to start in place of Ray (even if Pierce is moving to SG)

Curry is a deal killer.

Plus, why would the Celtics want to help the Knicks clear cap room to sign Lebron?

I thought they were Marbury, Walker and TA.  (with a special nod to Pruitt)

It's not ideal, but Paul could slide over to SG (he guards plenty of SGs, including the best one in the NBA), with Chandler starting.  Or, sign a SG in free agency (Anthony Parker?) and have Chandler come off the bench.

I think too much is made of the "undersized power forward".  First, Lee is 6'9" and has a 7'0" wingspan.  Second, height doesn't matter nearly as much as results, and Lee's height hasn't held him back at this level.

This trade would net us three starting-caliber players for one.  None of those players are as good as Ray Allen, but collectively, this trade improves us, both in the short- and long-terms.

(As for Curry, if he's sitting at home, I doubt it would be a problem for anybody.)

If it's going to happen anyway, why not benefit from it?

(Kinda of like facilitating Rasheed to the Pistons.)

How about something a little smaller?

Celtics trade Davis (S & T) and TA

for

Lee (S & T)

Knicks get out of having to pay Lee that would likely hurt them in the hunt for Lebron while still getting a you replacement at about half the price.

The knicks already have enough cap room to sign LeBron.

Roy, the trade isn't bad, but I agree the Knicks would probably need to sweeten the pot a bit.  The trade would probably mean the Cs don't resign BBD and Powe (Lee would pretty much fill that role).  Wilson Chandler and Duhon are very nice pickups, and give the Cs the backup 1 and 3 that they need.  The problem is that the Cs would then need a SG starter and a backup center (Curry doesn't count).
Celtics fan for life.

It wouldn't be possible with Base Year Compensation rules.

Rasheed was going whether the Celtics dipped their toes in or not.

Lee's contract along with Curry can be enough to keep the Knicks from offering the max to Lebron.
