An NBA source said ex-Celtics forward Antoine Walker is in his best shape in years, as he hopes to return to the NBA after being cut by the Grizzlies last season without playing a game. The source also said veteran free agent Tim Thomas, 32, is quietly expressing interest in the Celtics. The 6-foot-10-inch, 240-pounder averaged 8.5 points and 3.1 rebounds and shot 41.3 percent from 3-point range with the Clippers, Knicks, and Bulls in 64 games last season. Thomas played with Allen in Milwaukee.

If we had more roster space, I'd be fine with bringing Antoine back essentially to fill the M.L. Carr role (other than the terrible run as a coach and GM).  We could use Antoine as a towel waver.

Unfortunately, those spots on the team are already filled.  Now, we need to add players who can actually play.  Antoine's not in that category.

If he is indeed in shape then we should consider him as a help from the bench. The guy can score and pass, and he is quite a leader. If he spent the whole summer working out with some other Celtics, wouldn't you like him to get 10-15 min for us?

I would.

Walker is a player whose body has betrayed him a few years ago and hasn't played in over a season.

I would love if Walker's time off allowed his body to recover to the point of being able to play 15 minutes of quality SF...

just like I would have loved Gerald Green living up to just 10% of the hype.

Can we somehow have this employee #8 instead? He might actually be able to get some playing time in and help us.

I would take Toine back for the minimum in an instant. He Sure beats Moore, Pollard, Obryant, Pruitt, etc. He is 6 ft 9 and plays with passion and experience.

M.L. did actually make one fantastic trade, trading Eric Montross to Dallas to move up in the draft and select Antione AND get a first rounder the following year (which could of been McGrady, but Pitino took Mercer).  Dallas took Samaki Walker with the pick we traded.

Sorry to bring it up team, but I"m looking for opinions on bringing Toine back to Boston. Apparantly (from a source which seems to want to remain anonymous) he's in great shape. He'll 100% take a vet min, will accept any role, and has love for the fans/city. He'd certainly love a ring and we're all hungry for another, so what do you guys think? I know there are many many many better options, and I am fully willing to accept being dead-wrong about this, but I really do think he can help. I"m not saying give him a rotation spot, but there aren't few others i'd like to see sitting in J.R.'s spot other than Toine. Please be kind with the responses as I know there are a lot of Toine haters here.

I love Toine but I think I would rather have Grant Hill backing up the 3.  Plus we don't have too many roster spots as of now to take risks and need more of the safe route.   However say if Scal is part of a trade I would bring him in to fill Scal's slot on the team for vet min no problem.

Just because another Antoine thread is exactly what we need on this blog  ;). Could he be Pierce's perfect backup? Maybe he could be a poor man's Lamar Odom off our bench? The SF/PF we were looking for, minus the defense?

Walker couldn't even fill this role in Memphis, one of the worst teams in the league.  What makes us think he can fill this role on a championship contender?

I have no interest in supporting, defending or re-acquiring Antoine, but I'd guess Memphis was more interested in a youth movement when he was there than whether he was unable to fill a particular role.

My perfect last guy on the bench is scal.  A vet who can play multiple spots, help the team in all the little ways and teach the young guys.  No thanks antoine.  I hated the wiggle after a 3 and want to distant any memory of pitino being here.
He has no spot on this team.
