Man this stuff makes me laugh.  We hadn't had a quality NBA high caliber point guard since really DJ (unless of course you somehow think Sherm Douglass, Dee Brown, an aging Kenny Anderson, an aging Gary Payton, and he countless other jokers we've had since DJ), and we're talking about trading him.

Seriously, all the winning in the last two season made me forget how absurd these message boards can get when there's nothing to talk about.

Rondo isn't going anywhere.  In fact, he's gonna take over the captainship when Pierce retires.  And he's gonna be second or third on the team in scoring next year.  Watch.

I am completely prepared to root for Rondo and Perkins throughout the rest of their careers.  These guys represent the future of the franchise to many of us and my heart skips a beat reading all the trade chatter.  If we are bored I'd much rather read posts about the annual rainfall on the Iberian peninsula or commodities pricing in China.

While I agree that no one is untouchable, I think right now the core of this team should be about as close to untouchable as possible.  This team obviously gels together and (when healthy) can challenge the Bulls' record for wins in a season.

We'd be foolish to think we can do better than that.

I'm with those who say you simply don't.

To me, Rondo is half the reason to watch the games. He reminds me of Pedro Martinez(in his prime) in that regard. A gifted athlete who can do things no one else can, is exciting to watch, is a winner, and seems to be playing chess while the opponents are playing checkers.

It was a long twenty years between titles and the team we have right now is so good, some of us are already taking it for granted. I wouldn't trade Perk, PP, Ray(well maybe), Leon, KG, or Rondo. And Scal and Eddie ain't that bad either. Baby sounds like he only wants the big bucks, and I question his long term health.

It would be nice, but probably not do-able salary wise, to bring back D West and Posey to strengthen the bench. And a solid backup center who can at least defend a little bit, and is less than 40 years old.

But getting back to the original point, if Chris Paul was in the trade I'd probably do it. But didn't Paul's team lose a playoff game by 58 points? If the C's had done that, half the bloggers here would be whining about Rondo's inconsistency, failure to get his teammates the ball, immaturity, horrible shooting, bad attitude, etc.

Anyway, go Magic! I'll be dvr'ing the game and watching it in the morning, so I can skip the media slobbering over Kobe.

I love watching Rondo. He's one of the most unique players in the entire league, but I'm sure we've all heard he does sort of have a bad attitude in ways, and doesn't work on his game enough. With that said, if we could get a dominate young big and a good guard or two, then I'd have to do it. Like Ray and Rondo for Baron Davis, Gordon and Blake Griffin? I'd do that, Clippers wouldn't, I don't think but I probably would.

According to Hoopsworld, there are some behind the scenes problems with Rondo.

On the record we have an added wrinkle - one that we thought to be highly unlikely until we found it reported with a quote attributed to Celtics GM Danny Ainge. It seems the Celtics are willing to package Rajon Rondo with Allen to make the right deal happen

"He's stubborn," Ainge told ESPN's Jackie MacMullen. "He doesn't always take direction well. He's very bright and knows what he needs to do to be successful. But sometimes he doesn't understand what the team needs to be successful."

Doc Rivers expressed similar sentiments, which he directed at Rondo himself earlier this season.

"Do you know your teammates hate playing with you? ... The point guard has to be the guy that brings energy to the team. You can't be the guy that sucks it away. Your moodiness is affecting us. Change it."

The only reason why i would trade rondo now while his value is up is that eventually once he can't blow by guys he will be mediocre in the nba. Who knows if this will happen in the next 3 years or 10 years but unless he can start shooting with decency his career as a celtics will be always shaky imo

Thats why this rumour with phx doesn't sound hocus pocus like jeff thinks it is. Danny has a big decision to make with rondo soon and that is how much to sign him up for. Without the big three can he still be effective? Will teams figure him out just like the magic expertly did?

Rondo unfortunately also plays in the eastern conference where most teams play the half court game and the pg needs to be able to shoot. In the western conference there is alot more running and gunning involved. Watch denver, lakers etc. If you score on them all they like to do is score back on you but not place all their effort to stop you.

I don't want rondo traded and hope he can learn how to shoot like a pro but like someone stated nobody on the celtics team is untouchable

wow ... talk about taking things WAAAAY out of context.  I saw those articles a month ago.  It was a glowing piece about how Rondo had improved and how he was confident in himself.  The second part about "did you know your teammates hate playing with you" is taken out of context when Doc was talking about how AS A ROOKIE Rondo would give his teammates crap and he needed to learn how to be a better leader (which he has become).  Ridiculous

Thanks for the info on the original articles. TP I knew that something seemed wrong but didn't remember the original quotes.  I hate writers who do that!

I found the story and posted it in their comments section. wonder how long that link  will stay up?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2009/columns/story?columnist=macmullan_jackie&page=Rondo-090423&campaign=rss&source=NBAHeadlines

6th paragraph down starts the comments they are lifting out of context that Lar was talking about.

I think most if not all of that I've heard about Rondo not working on his game enough is idle speculation by people on this blog.

I love Rajon as much as the next guy, but no one is untouchable.  It truly depends on what you are getting in return.

Agreed.  No offense to Rondo, but you gotta consider a trade that gets talent in return (agreed with wdleehi that the PHX one wasn't the case -- Cs gave up way too much).  No one is untouchable.
Celtics fan for life.
