"I talked to [Garnett] and he guaranteed the championship in 2010 and in 2011," Grousbeck said.

Link.

I think that guarantee will only be as good as the teammates KG is playing with next season.  Let's hope that Danny and Wyc provide Doc, KG, and the rest of the team the pieces they need.

When KG is fired up, that can only be a good thing.

I hope his guarantees don't hold the same weight as those of Mo Williams.

I think KG has a bit more cachet to say such things than 1 one time *cough* all-star *cough* Mo Williams.

Still don't like the guarantee.

The difference, in my opinion, is that KG was making the guarantee to his owner.  Wyc is the one who leaked it to the press.  In the case of Mo Williams, he was out there front and center, flapping his gums to the world (and therefore, putting a huge target on his and the Cavs' back).

I don't really mind either honestly. You should expect to win as a player, nothing wrong with saying so.

yep. The media got ahold of it, but this was KG and wyc talking, not Kg making a statement to the press.

also, as discussed at length in the mo thread, I have zero problem with athletes being confidant in their abilities.

Still the same to me.  You have to expect that the media would get ahold of it, they usually do.

So you expect KG to say to Wyc: "I'll try super hard to win it again in 2010 and 2011"?

He doesn't have to say anything to Wyc.

With that said, I think it's cool he did.

Geez, Wyc is like a little schoolgirl with any kind of information, he simply can't wait to tell the world whenever he has priviledged info. I don't really care, its just I doubt KG really wanted Wyc to repeat to the public that he is guaranteeing championships, I don't think he is wanting to give Lebron, Dwight & Kobe any bulletin board material. Furthermore, saying they used the Patriots as a prototype for injuries is the exact opposite of what the Patriots would've done, just because everyone probably knows anyways doesn't mean you have to confirm it, right? Good job Wyc, just knitpicking.

mo williams' one was gamesmanship in front of cameras. KG told the guy who writes him a large paycheck that he's not backing down. they really have nothing to do with one another.

I guarantee that we will make the playoffs in 2010 and 2011. I think we have a great chance at winning the championship in 2010, 2011.

I can't wait until next season. Kevin Garnett is fired up and when he's fired up, no one is stopping him.

except that wyc leaked it, so he must not care about the media reaction along with the majority of us, since it was a private convo until he twittered about it.

the fact that ESPN has convinced fans that great players need "bulletin board" material in order to have any pride in themselves, their teamates, or their own team is one of the major reasons i can't stand that network.

Bulletin bored material is a made up contorversy so that ESPN can fill 24 hours of inane coverage. Yes, im sure players see things other guys say and add it to thier trash talk, but they already have every reason to play hard in the playoffs.

The reason ESPN acts like 'OH SNAP!!!! DID YOU SEE WHAT X PLAYER SAID!!!" is so that there horrible talking head's shows can repeat it 47 times a day and act like its a big deal, rather than do any actual reporting.

Great players are out to win, and they are constantly talking smack about each other and each others teams. no one on the lakers or cavs cares that KG talked to his owner and guaranteed to do his job. trust me those guys are already very ready to play us whenever.
