Geez, Wyc is like a little schoolgirl with any kind of information, he simply can't wait to tell the world whenever he has priviledged info. I don't really care, its just I doubt KG really wanted Wyc to repeat to the public that he is guaranteeing championships, I don't think he is wanting to give Lebron, Dwight & Kobe any bulletin board material. Furthermore, saying they used the Patriots as a prototype for injuries is the exact opposite of what the Patriots would've done, just because everyone probably knows anyways doesn't mean you have to confirm it, right? Good job Wyc, just knitpicking.

the fact that ESPN has convinced fans that great players need "bulletin board" material in order to have any pride in themselves, their teamates, or their own team is one of the major reasons i can't stand that network.

Bulletin bored material is a made up contorversy so that ESPN can fill 24 hours of inane coverage. Yes, im sure players see things other guys say and add it to thier trash talk, but they already have every reason to play hard in the playoffs.

The reason ESPN acts like 'OH SNAP!!!! DID YOU SEE WHAT X PLAYER SAID!!!" is so that there horrible talking head's shows can repeat it 47 times a day and act like its a big deal, rather than do any actual reporting.

Great players are out to win, and they are constantly talking smack about each other and each others teams. no one on the lakers or cavs cares that KG talked to his owner and guaranteed to do his job. trust me those guys are already very ready to play us whenever.

that's right. the real bulletin board material doesn't get said on tv or newspapers or websites, it's between the guys on the floor and no one else, and they don't repeat it because they would lose big $$ and respect

When KG is fired up, that can only be a good thing.

I hope his guarantees don't hold the same weight as those of Mo Williams.

i highly doubt that will happen mo williams cant will never match the intensity/ crazy awesome. that kg is :)

I think KG has a bit more cachet to say such things than 1 one time *cough* all-star *cough* Mo Williams.

Still don't like the guarantee.

The difference, in my opinion, is that KG was making the guarantee to his owner.  Wyc is the one who leaked it to the press.  In the case of Mo Williams, he was out there front and center, flapping his gums to the world (and therefore, putting a huge target on his and the Cavs' back).

yep. The media got ahold of it, but this was KG and wyc talking, not Kg making a statement to the press.

also, as discussed at length in the mo thread, I have zero problem with athletes being confidant in their abilities.

Still the same to me.  You have to expect that the media would get ahold of it, they usually do.

mo williams' one was gamesmanship in front of cameras. KG told the guy who writes him a large paycheck that he's not backing down. they really have nothing to do with one another.
For the record, I don't think that Mo Williams gauranteed a championship (assuming we are talking about the interview at the all star game).  In fact, I think he was just gauranteeing that they would make the ECF.

As I recall, the interviewer initially asked him if the Cav would make it to the ECF, then she quickly changed it to thr Finals, but after (or while) Mo was answering the question.

I thought the guarantee came in the ECF, when he guaranteed they'd beat Orlando?

Yes, I am aware of that one as well, though some say it wasn't really a guarantee.  I was referring to an interview at the all star game where I believe he may have used the actual word.  Either way, what it does show is that Mo is a lot of talk.  I think we can agree on that.

Agreed.

Only benefit I can see is that there are one or two FAs who Wyc & Co. are targeting that needed a little public reassurance that everything is okay with KG before said FAs sign with Boston.

A guarantee like that is so premature that its ridiculous to even say it to anyone.  Of course it is dependent on Ainge filling in the roster, but really, what are the chances that all of the starters will be healthy and in uniform in the playoffs?  65%?  Its way too early to assume everything will go smoothly.

Maybe KG's just very confident in Danny's backcourt of the future, Gabe Pruitt and JR Giddens.  :P

but the thing is, there probley shooting the you know what in private...i say all kinds of things in private that would seem silly to say to a large group of people.

You can't expect him to put on his "media face" when talking to his boss in private, thats going to far.

For those who have a problem with this, have it with wyc for repeating a convo between him and kevin in private, not with kevin for being confidant enough to tell the guy who signs his pay checks he's going to go out and get him his championships.

I know, imagine if everything Tony Allen said in private was reported. He's probably said "Blank him up" about a dozen people and would have numerous attempted murder charges against him... though Danny would still heart him  ;)

As long as he's not still sipping those drinks in August and getting pulled over by the Las Vegas PD.
