My problem:

1)Amare is a primadona
2)Rondo can carry a team as well or better than Amare
3)It can be argued that Amare is a product of SNash/D'Anthony

...I just don't like the guy.  Too high-maintenance and expensive

I could see a Richardson, Barbosa, and the 14th pick for Ray Allen. Suns save a ton of money and the C's add some depth. I just can't imagine the Celtics would consider the other deal involving Rondo.
That's a pretty good deal for both teams.  And obviously you don't include Rondo unless you get Amare back.

I like that idea too, phoenix gets substantially lighter in the wallett while we get a very solid combo guard and scorer/outside threat in Barbosa, and a scorer and outside threat in Richardson. I think having Pierce/Richardson/Barbosa and House gives us a lot of perimeter possibilities.

But I can't help but think the Amare rumors have been on the table for awhile. They wanted to trade for Al Jefferson with Minnny last year, and even contacted San Antonio about swapping for Duncan. I think we will hear more about this deal as originally stated. At 14, we could get a really solid pg like Johnny Flynn or Ty Lawson.

The rumored trade doesn't help the Celtics win now.  They may be bringing in the better talent, but lose the better fit.

As for the trade ideas, just about any trade that brings in a player like Paul would work for the Celtics.

The trade to get the number 3 pick is really not a good move.  The follow up deals would be to get rid of KG and Pierce because at that point, you are rebuilding.

Rondo is untouchable. This kid is just starting to reach his potential. I would not trade him straight up for Amare even if their contracts matched.

No players is untouchable.

Agreed.

However, Rondo has surely become one of those you have to think long and hard about holding on to.  He will not be moved without serious reflection and internal struggle within the front office.

This thread was just mentioned on Dale and Holley about 15 minutes ago. Kind of cool.

That should be true for all good players.

On point number three it can be argued that he just a good player generally. Which way do you stand? Is he a system product or actually good? And can you support that?

I think he's actually good. I see him as a sort of skinny version of Jefferson, good offense, good rebounding, not great 1:1. I don't think he's good enough of a big man to trade Rondo for: injury concerns (micro fracture on the knee, the eye thing), a lack of even very good defense, and I'm not sure he has the high post passing to be a fully dominant offensive player.

Does that mean that shout outs might make the show?   ;)

Nah, I'm a small fish around here. I just like to see CB get recognition as the premier blog for anything Celtics.  ;)

Thank god there is no way Amare has the right brain type or we might make this stupid trade.

No way you give a team desperate to dump salary a 23 year old point guard who just nearly averaged a triple double in the playoffs.

This rumor was obviously floated by the extremely desperate Phoenix front office and/or fanbase.

Scalabrine and Tony Allen for Barbosa is the only trade I would consider with Phoenix right now. I like House and Tony Allen for Barbosa a lot better. Both deals would be considered by Phoenix who is doing a Control-Alt-Delete right now.

I really don't want any part of Amare or Jason (POOHPOOH) Richardson.

Sign up Grant Hill to an LLE or the Vet min.

Keep Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo -

That is my 2 pennies worth.

Sorry for the angry reaction there, that was the first I heard of the Amare/Barbosa for Rondo/Ray rumor.

I think Richardson is ok, but one of those good players who has mostly been stuck on bad teams, and thus comes with the question marks that go with that. But I think adding him to the mix is still putting a bow on a turd.

But man that rumor has to be something floated from the Phoenix end of things. Before the deadline, they tried to give away Amare and/or Shaq for expiring contracts and nobody wanted them. Now they want Rondo???? Absurd.

Throwing in the #14 pick seals it as a Phoenix-centric idea...yeah, the Celtics really want the #14 pick in a weak draft in a year they are looking for guys ready to play in the playoffs. That is some Phoenix fan or Steve Kerr or somebody who doesn't follow us saying 'oho they don't have a first rounder, surely this will sweeten the pot.'

:D I opened the wiki on Rondo to fact check his age and found something I forgot about.

"Rondo was drafted 21st overall by the Phoenix Suns in the 2006 NBA Draft. Phoenix then traded him to the Boston Celtics along with Brian Grant for the Cleveland Cavaliers' first-round draft pick in the 2007 NBA Draft and cash considerations"

Then in 2007 they picked Rudy Fernandez and traded him to Portland for James Jones and cash.

edit: oh man it's even better, I read it wrong...they traded Rudy WITH James Jones for cash.

Basically, they gave away Rondo for a big pile of money and now want us to give them a pile of money and Rondo.
