a lot is made of getting Grant Hill, but I wonder if Trevor Ariza might be a better long-term pickup

he might cost more, but he's got the defensive chops to get us back on track on defense - might be a younger version of Posey (not sure how well he shoots, so don't take the comparison too far)

he's a free agent and the Lakers are worried about losing him

We wouldn't have the money to pay him anyway.

you think he's going to get more than the MLE?

(not that im in favor of paying him our MLE, just wondering what value you have him at)

Ya, that's all lip service.  If the C's gave him a competitive bid, the chance to win a ring would trump any childhood hatred he had for the C's.

I wouldn't necessarily pay the full MLE to a backup sf. It's (hopefully) the MLE minus what McDyess gets.

Ariza would be great but might require the entire MLE.

My philosophy would be to keep the starting five in tact (unless blown away) and add 3 players to make up the bench and a solid 8 man rotation:

- a SF that can play the SG position (Ariza type) Trade Scal+Allen+House or just Scal+Allen?

- a PF/C (Mcdyess type) MLE?

- A Veteran PG (Marbury type) LLE or House is your backup?

If you sign Ariza how are you going to plug the rest of the holes?

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I'd love to have Ariza, but I think the full MLE is the basement as far as his possible money goes.

This guy is a starter for a conference finals team (assuming they lose, which they will, because God hates Kobe.), I think he's got Tayshaun Prince money in his future.

To get that the team he plays for needs to resign him, because I don't think he sees that on the open market.

He doesn't have a chance at a ring re-signing with the Lakers?!

Come on people. I know we are all die-hard C's fans on here, but we aren't the only team with a very good chance at a ring. We may not even be the team with the best chance at a ring. Let's not let our green tinted glasses cloud our objectivity like we are the only game in town here.

I think Ariza will re-sign with LA unless he gets a ridiculous offer elsewhere.

I'm not so sure. If they let Odom go then he's back in LA for sure. But will the Lakers really pay Bryant, Gasol, Odom, Bynum, and Ariza?

Remember Walton and Sasha are making pretty decent cash too. That is a huge payroll.

Money talks more than that. But I think he'll get equal offers to start somewhere for the same money we can offer.
