Sheed has said he won't play for under 8 mil per season. We aren't that much of a lock that he is positive he gets a ring with us. Unless his friendship with KG makes him go back on his statement he isn't coming here. I think he is noticeably less effective and old now anyway. McDyess is the answer in this. We sign him for a reasonable figure, sign and trade BBD and add a young one and even a first rounder next year if needed to get back a very solid defensive stopper at the SF spot. Then pick up another lower end backup big man. We sign Marbury if he'll take vet minimum, Mikki at the vet minimum, and Powe for cheap. Turn loose or include in the trade TA and Pruitt.

Rondo/Marbury
Ray/House/Giddens
PP/?trade?/Walker
KG/Mcdyess/Scal/Powe
Perk/?FA?/Mikki

If Sheed is that FA signing to backup Perk as well then great. If not, then we'll find someone. He just has to be big. No more undersized bigs.

Honestly, Id take either, because it means were making positive adds to the bench.

The thing about Sheed asking for 8M, did he really say it? I thought it was an unnamed friend. I would take that with a grain of salt. If he wants to come back, it's probably between us and San Antonio at the MLE. The Spurs can offer him a starting spot, but hopefully KG can convince him to come here.

'Sheed ain't getting $8M.  No one's getting $8M this offseason other than MAYBE Ben Gordon and probably Carlos Boozer, if he opts out.  No one's got the money and no one wants to spend the money, not this summer.  Both these guys will probably get offers around 3 yrs at the full MLE, which I think is fair and I'd be very happy with.

All you have to do is look at Game 4 against Cleveland to advocate bringing in McDyess. While everyone else was making summer plans, McDyess was single handedly defending any credibility that Pistons team had on the court.

This guy is a gamer and a pro. Also, a large problem for us is our tendency to stagnate the offense, which leads to low % shots at the end of the shot clock.
This is Sheed's MO. Flash to the top of the key, catch and shoot. He's a 7'0 footer who has a career average of 1.5 offensive rebounds a game. I'd prefer someone who can mix it up in the post and keep the ball moving.

McDyess will be about 2-3 million cheaper, too.

Antonio all the way on this one.

ok, I was with you until you said we should sign Mikki, then you lost me. He didn't even play in this year's playoffs when we desperately needed a big, why would he be useful next year if we upgrade the bench?

Either one would be GREAT! I'm actually starting to favor McDyess over Sheed, only because we know what we would get.

But again, either one would give as a huge lift on the bench.

I'd prefer McDeyss. Wallace is too much of a loose cannon; furthermore, his game has significantly declined, yet his ego is as strong as ever.

I think it would be a great idea to sign either one of these guys to be the 3d guy in the rotation of bigs.  Who would you rather have?

Rasheed would be great for the entertainment factor.  He's also taller than McDyess, with greater range on his shot.  But McDyess seems more consisent and professional.  Tough call, but I think I'd rather get Sheed.  He and KG in the game together would be tough, and probably the most foul-mouthed frontcourt tandem in league history.

But seriously, getting one of these guys would really shore up the rotation and solve the C's backup big problem.  Perk/Garnett/Sheed or McDyess could each play a manageable 32 minutes a game, with Scal thrown in to reduce minutes as necessary.  The team could then even look at signing and trading Baby for a needed backup wing player.

I'd take Sheed over McDyess ANY day of the week.

McDyess doesn't want to win and Sheed should be HUNGRY for a chip (and to get out of Motor City).

huh?

Mcdyess played like the only player who gave a [dang] about winning for the last year on the pistons....

I can understand wanting sheed over dice (i want dice, but either one signing would be awesome) but where did this come from?

Sheed is more skill than McDyess... He can post and shoot 3s... Throw away last year's performance, he is a more effective pick and roll defender and post defender...

Truthfully, I see Boston as the only place where Sheed will be happy. He will play for a coach who appreciates and teammates whom he respect and who love him for what he does. We will be 3 million short of his demand, but for respect, happiness, and chance to win championship, I think the chance of him coming here will be great!!

I'd prefer Dice.

We have two really solid Centers in Perk and Baby Davis.  I would prefer adding a pure PF who can spell KG for extended time.

We learned quickly this playoff run that Baby gives us matchup problems at the 4, so I'd prefer a move that allowed us to play him primarily at the 5 behind Perk.

They'd both be about perfect for us, but put me in the Sheed camp on this one.  Not only can he stretch the floor, post up and play defense, he's also good friends with KG, cold blooded when it counts the most, and wants to get his WWF Champion belt back over his shoulder badly.

I am almost ready to say that a Sheed signing would take a huge amount of pressure off the other signings that we're all waiting for, because FAs would flock to a team that is so stacked...

Easily McDyess and it's not close. He was by far and away the Pistons best player last season. Excellent rebounder, best defender, and a good complementary offensive player.

Sheed is struggling, his legs are going and he's having much less of an impact defensively. His lack of rebounding is becoming more of an issue ... and he isn't productive/efficient enough offensively to make up for it.

I don't think so... i agree that dice was the more consistent player on this year's pistons, but dice is much more limited than sheed. sheed can do much more and is a better player. What he needs is motivation and comfort level... both of which, he can find them in Boston!
