I happen to like this kid a lot. Anyone interested in seeing him in celtics uniform?

We could do a trade like this: Send TA and Scalabrine to New Jersey in return for Yi and Najera. Why for New Jersey? This move would save them a little bit of money. Why for Boston? Najera has the toughness and size that has been missing since Posey. He seems like a player that could really fit right in. Yi could contribute on the offensive end in a nice bench role. I haven't seen much of the kid, but I think he could be a good role player--nothing more than a role player, however. Would New Jersey actually do this deal? I tend to doubt it. We don't have enough to sweeten the deal. We could throw in a future first rounder, but I don't know if that would be enough to get it done. Honestly, Yi and Najera are not exactly what we need but it's an avenue worth exploring.

No. Bad player. I didn't like him since his first games in his rookie season and I'm not surprised the Nets are trying to move him already. We probably don't have the assets to make the deal anyway.

I don't want Najera either, Scalabrine is a better player than Najera.

No projects, unless we're trading our own under-contract projects (i.e., Giddens) or scraps (i.e., Tony) in return.

doubly so on projects who don't play defense.

Who's the project? Yi is probably older than Najera.

Ditto.

Tony has no more potential at this point.  He is what he is.  Yi "might" have some major potential or none.  At least there is that "might" with Yi.

While he may or may not be, I think it's hard to say that Yi has reached his full potential.  He appears to be a work in progress.

He hasn't progressed a lot in 2 years. If anything, he regressed a little bit.

Agreed with the general above concensus to pass on Yi.
Celtics are in a "win now" mode, and need solid bench/role players at certain positions (1,3,5).  Last offseason DA signed a project 5 who didn't pan out (POB); I really don't want more of the same.
Celtics fan for life.

It'll be very interesting to see what type of trade value Yi has. I'm not sure what the Nets can realistically get for him.

Very disappointing in his lack of development. He's pretty much a write off at this stage.

You guys are way to hard on Yi.  He produces at approximately the same rate that Perkins did in 07/08, which happened to be Perkins 5th year.  Yi needs to work on his shot selection and obviously needs to get stronger, but he made great strides in improving his outside shooting, cut back on his turnovers, worked on his passing, and increased his rebound rate.  If he is really only 21, Yi could easily turn into a very good player.  I wouldn't mind Yi at all if the price was right, I just don't think we have the pieces Jersey would be looking for.

Yi's had several strikes against him: a difficult transition to the NBA life compounded by culture shock as an international player, the pressures of being a lottery pick, a trade to a second team in an many years, and having lost a good chunk of time this past year due to injury.

Bargnani only started to show some promise this past season, his 3rd in the league. I think Yi will need as much time before he can be assessed a bust.

That said, not keen on picking him up.

I akin Yi's upside to a "poor man's" Hedo Turkolu, with less penetrating and passing, but better rebounding.

So, judging from what we had to work with from our current bench.

A project in Yi is better than nothing.
