No projects, unless we're trading our own under-contract projects (i.e., Giddens) or scraps (i.e., Tony) in return.

Cant be said better than this. This team needs proven veterans and proven young legs for the bench. Not a guy who is still trying to find his game. If we were rebuilding I'd certainly take a stab at him. But we are nowhere near the rebuilding process. Therefore stay clear of him.

No. Milwaukee shipped him out & now NJ is wanting to do so, as well... this guy was all hype.  Celts don't need any projects, guys who could be hit or miss.  I think mostly everyone is in agreement they need solid, concrete back ups at the 3 & 5 positions, respectively.  Guys who you know what exactly they will give you 9 out of 10 times night in and night out.  He would add size to the bench, but as I said, Milwaukee was so hard pressed to draft him a few yrs back & they quickly shipped him out, now NJ wants to do the same. He can't cut it consistently.

Yi has shown a heck of a lot more than O'Bryant

like what?

Yi still doesn't play defense, rebound, or have a good post game.

He shoots the 17 footer better than POB, but thats about it.

He is better than POB, but so are most big men with a pulse. The chairman is a bust.

We don't need another soft, unaccomplished 7-footer. We're probably going to get saddled with the Robert Swift albatross as it is.

Not interested in Yi at all, and I thank God every day that Ainge didn't get a chance to waste the 5th pick on him two years ago.

I don't want the Celts to aquire Yi, but he's got the skills to become something like Keith Van Horn in his prime.  A major issue appears to be his willingness to play through minor injuries...kind of like Van Horn.
Sometimes a young player who is always bothered by some injury or another never really gets in enough of a groove to develop.  So, while I don't want him on the C's, I wouldn't call him a stiff yet.

+1

Too many "might be's" and "probably won't ever be's" on this roster as it is.

Come on, he is a much better rebounder than O'Bryant.  Yi has been a 8.6 p and 5.3 r guy in each season, which isn't bad playing about half the game.  It isn't great, but he was a 20 year old foreign kid, who had to learn a new system, new foreign city, new culture, etc. on two different occassions.

People seem to forget how bad Perkins was his first few years and he spoke the language, knew the culture, and was never traded.

Big men, especially young big men, take quite a few years to physically develop and Yi has shown some ability.

Scals for Yi works on RealGM.  TA for Yi does not due to Tony being a BYC.  Will this base year prohabition expire on July 1 making it possible to trade TA for Yi?

why would the nets trade for TA or scals? Scals at least has the contract expiring, but TA is a disaster of a basketball player with injury issues.

Still, the nets can get more out of a young 7 footer, even one that they are down on, than Ta or scals.

I would do this trade in a heartbeat. Didn't TA sign a 2year deal last year? if he did both scal and TA's contract expires at the end of next year. Nets are weak at 2 spot having only carter and douglas-roberts. I think they would consider it but probably wants more than what we could offer.

We could easily sweeten the pot if Danny like the Yi option.  We could include Gabe in the trade.  He does have some potential up side.  We could throw in a 2nd rounder as well if necessary.

That being said, I agree with someone that said that signing Shawn Marion to the 5 million exception would be ideal.  I realize that we would likely lose Big Baby, who I would miss, but I think he is looking for HIS payday now, and we likely will not pay over 4-5 million per year for his services.
