That leaves Marbury and Moore, who are unrestricted free agents.  I don't think anyone expects Moore back.

According to HoopsHype Mikki isn't a free agent, they say he's making $736 next year with two options for $854 and $916. Which i think is a good deal becuase he is a good 12th man.

Good Lord. If they signed Moore to any kind of a multi-year deal at all, that just compounds the felony.

Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Powe and BBD are both free agents, so at the moment they have no bench.  None, nada.  And Rivers did not do much to develop his young bench players, i.e. Giddens and Walker.

They can forget about signing veteran ring Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.s mid-season, because the are no longer a championship team.  They need some decent young bench players, and if that costs them Ray Allen, so be it.

And yes, they should use their MLE on a guy who can really contribute.  I don't think they should divide it up as they have in prior years.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
#1) make a choice on Glen Davis. We could even sign and trade him if a team really wanted him. However, we need to figure out how much we're willing to pay him.
#2) Let Moore go away. And fast.
#3) Figure out if Marbury wants to try. With a full season under his belt he'd be a valued addition.
#4) Powe. Offer him the mini. Its the right thing to do, and you know he's gonna work like hell to get back.
#5) Ime Udoka. I've been saying this for years. Ime Udoka.
#6) Need a competent Big. I like Gortat.
#7) Tony Allen. We barely knew ye. Goodbye.

Rondo/Marbury/Pruitt
Allen/House/
Pierce/Udoka/Walker
KG/Powe+Davis/Scal
Perkins/Competent Big.

Why do so many people have this love affair with Nocioni?  The guy doesn't play defense, and if we traded BBD for him, we'd lose yet another body that could help at the five. We'd end up with a guy who could help at the four and three, but we'd be even more weak up front.

  • Basketball is like chess, only without the dice
Prince is not happening.

Here's what I'd do:

Keep the starting 5, House and Scalabrine. Let Marbury, Moore and Pruitt walk. Offer Davis a LLE type of contract for 2 years, he'll probably walk as well. Sign Powe for a 2 year min. salary contract with a team option for the 2nd year. Try to move Tony Allen away, at least to save the luxury tax money.

Focus on signing Marcin Gortat or Grant Hill. I think it's unrealistic to expect the Polish Hammer to sign with us, so let's assume Hill accepts a LLE offer.

Offer something to Orlando for Fran Vasquez draft rights (money, 2nd round pick). Sign him. If it doesn't work, try to sign McDyess with part of the MLE.

Romain Sato, Austin Nichols, Quinton Ross, Carlos Delfino, Othyus Jeffers, Ime Udoka: sign one of these guys (they are aligned by order of preference) to be Grant Hill's backup.

Sign Brian Skinner and Terrel McIntyre (I wouldn't mind to see a younger guy here, say Bobby Brown or DJ Strawberry).

Rondo/House/McIntyre
Allen/Sato/Giddens
Pierce/Hill/Walker
Garnett/ Skinner/ Scal
Perkins/Vasquez (McDyess)

Replace one of Giddens/Walker with Powe.

Well done, I agree with everything you said. I can live without the mention of Ime Udoka, however. I don't think the guy is a NBA caliber player.

We need a big and a amll forward for sure.  The conservative in my would be elated if we got McDyess.  The risk taker thinks Ra (as in, Wallace) would be more effective.  He can stretch the floor a bit more and is an outstanding and versatile defender.  Slightly better than McDyess in all phases.  Of course, he is a nut so maybe not.

At the SF, I would love Grant Hill.  Or at least the Grant Hill I remember.  That guy was a good defender and here is the bonus.  He was effectively a point forward.  If he can still do that for a few minutes a game, that would give us the ability to play House without having a Mighty Mite back court.

I would sign BBD only at the right price, which I think is not more than 10 mil for about three years.

Either way, I think next year we have ot be all in.  This will be our best last opportunity to win a title and we can penny pinch our way into it.

(1) Let Glen Davis walk. He isn't worth the money he'll command.

We have no idea how much money Baby wants. If they can resign him for ~9 million/3 years, they should do it, imo.

Quote
(2) Let Marbury walk. Maybe he regains his touch, maybe he doesn't, either way I'm uncomfortable with the uncertainty.
(3) Move Tony Allen. If there's no decent trade on the table, offer $3mil to someone like Memphis to take his contract off the C's hands so the team can gain some financial wiggle room

I completely agree, time to stop the madness.

Quote
(4) I like Eddie House as the primary backup point guard and I like Gabe Pruitt as the third string point guard. Keep them. Stop trying to move House off the ball, I'd rather dump him than play him at the off guard next year.

We had House as our backup PG for the first half of the regular season, and I wasn´t happy with that. He´s better as a backup SG, imo, as a sparkplug off the bench. I would try to get a wing who can play the 2 and the 3, and use Eddie depending on the situation.

Quote
(5) Resign Leon Powe to a contract a little above the minimum and give him a shot at his comeback.
(6) Let Mikki Moore leave
(7) Keep Giddens and Walker, but since neither established themselves this season ... those two plus Pruitt should be taking up roster spots 13-15.

Yes, yes, and uhm? After two years, Pruitt`s still not able to get court-time. As dlpin pointed out, that´s ~ 1.5 million we`d pay for Pruitt. Let Pruitt walk and keep a roster spot open for buyouts at the deadline. The gamble itself is not the problem, it´s a problem if you gamble to fill key positions.

Quote
[8] I'd like to see Josh Powell signed for the minimum to be the fourth big man in the rotation.
I know you just want quality, but there´s no way I´m rooting for an ex-Laker...NO WAY!

Quote
(9) Sign Grant Hill to the LLE to be the team's sixth man in his first season, and possibly a lesser role the next year.

I hope they won´t do that. I don´t want this to turn into the Celtics version of the Malone-Payton Lakers.
I mean, I like the guy, I like the player, but we need real role-players, not an ex-star who has never won anything. If they´re really interested in McDyess and Hill, I think they should decide between them. Don´t take both!

Quote
(13) Examine trade possibilities with Ray Allen being the centerpiece. Maybe there's a worthwhile trade there, maybe there isn't ... it's worth looking.

Whatever we could get for Ray, I´m not certain that it would make up for his loss. It´s tempting to play with the idea, since he has a big contract and is the oldest of the big three, but I think Ray is a prime-candidate for a player you keep for less money. He´s smart, composed, skilled and in top shape. This is a veteran you`ll be glad to have around.

Imo, we have to keep the starting 5, Baby, Eddie, Scal, one of Walker/Giddens (and Powe, hopefully).
I want to see either a real big men who can play the game, not Mikki "Ol' Stone Hands" Moore, or a real 6th man at the wing position for the MLE. For backup PG, I´d be happy if Danny plays the "deadline-trade/buyout-game" once again, especially since we´re in a better postion this year with a bunch of expiring contracts.

In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

Why do you say that? The Pistons will be moving both Prince and Rip this summer and are looking for expiring contracts/players to fill out their roster.

With the addition of Roger Mason Jr, Udoka got relegated to the 4th sf off the bench, behind Finley, Ginobli, and Bowen.

Ime Udoka is a guy that is capable of being the #1 stopper on a team, and a guy that is limited offensively but likes to hit the corner 3. He's got the size at 6'6 and strength to guard bigger perimeter players, and he's a smart defensive player.

Sound like anyone?

He's def a NBA player.

Joe Dumars is hardly gonna move an elite player within the conference for pieces that range from mediocre to bust. He'll get picks and players for both Hamilton and Prince.
