not talking about this til the season's over =)

Right on!  However, I can only commit to not talking about it seriously until the season's over.  Until then, I will tend to chime in when the thread amuses me.

I don't think PG is necessarily our number 1 priority to upgrade.

Ray should be and will be kept at least until the deadline. the only reason to take crawford would be to get jackson. the only reason to get jackson would be to back up pierce, which should be the #1 priority of the offseason. and jackson ain't coming here to back up pierce. this golden state idea keeps going around -- it's not happening. scrap it.

Ray should be kept and re-signed unless they get an unbelievable offer for him.

Marbury was also too good to be a backup 2 not long ago, and he was a sworn enemy of House for example. Anything is possible  ::)

Not sure if "not long ago" was the phrase you were looking for...

my off-season priorities would be (in order)

extend rondo - to some this is a no-brainer, but there is a whiff of off the court issues

sign big baby - he's big, can soak up fouls on any center in the league, and can score in bunches. he used to pass the ball well too, but you could see him playing for his contract in the playoffs, i.e. taking difficult shots himself instead of passing up the ball

extend ray allen - if he'll take a discount, we should sign him. he's in great shape (arguably the best shape of the big three) and he's one of the greatest shooters of all time. but he should not be paid as a franchise player anymore

backup small forward - Pierce cannot play the minutes he played this season and last in the playoffs. I don't know who can fill this spot... Matt Barnes?

more bigs - Even if Powe's surgery was a success, it's going to take him a season to get back to where he was. We don't have that long to wait. Rasheed Wallace, Zaza Pachulia?

point guard - Pruitt is still under contract but I don't think anybody trusts him with this team.

I do not envy DA's job, especially coming off of heart surgery!

Brandan Wright??

Not sure if we could work something out with Golden State to get Wright but Nelli loves big guys that can space the floor and might be interested in a Scalabrine for Wright deal.

We would probably have to offer them more than just Scal, but perhaps and Scal and Bill Walker for Wright and some bum might work.

They recently blocked the ESPN NBA Trade Machine in my office so I am not able to research this trade appropriately, this really sucks!

1.  lock up Rondo.  Ray comes off the books after next season, so the money's there starting in 2010-11.
2.  sign legitimate backup center (not PF).  Perk's shoulder is an ongoing concern, so backup could get considerable minutes.
3.  sign Eddie for another two years at under $3m.
4.  sign Baby if price is under $5m.
5.  Doc won't give Walker minutes at SF yet, and TA is embarassing. So, we need a 3. PReferably someone who can defend.  There won't be enough money to pick up someone who is actually capable of creating his own shot.
6.  It would be nice if Pruitt, Giddens and House could put in a combined 12 minutes a game at the point.
7.  I don't think Ray will be offered anything until his contract actually expires.

My dream off-season:

Sign and trade Big Baby, if he's not willing to return on the cheap, for Raymond Felton.

Sign Rasheed with the full MLE

Sign Grant Hill to offer that needed support at the 3

Sign McDyess with great hopes that he'll come cheap

Add another veteran point guard on the cheap like Flip Murray, or even Stephon if they would take a veterans minimun.  We all know Starbury can afford to.

Not sure if that's too many players on the roster or whatever, but it's ok to dream.

As KG's and Powe's injuries exposed on this team, backup wing is not the #1 need.  It's a big that can legitimately play the 4/5 spots.

Sign and trade Big Baby, if he's not willing to return on the cheap, for Raymond Felton. -->we short on PF/C but you'd move a serviceable one for a backup PG?  If BBD is moved in a S&T, it should be for another big.

Sign Rasheed with the full MLE  --> my thoughts exactly--it'll probably take the full MLE to get him unfortunately

Sign Grant Hill to offer that needed support at the 3 --> This would be the LLE or Vet Min since the MLE is used up?  I don't think he's sign for that little.

Sign McDyess with great hopes that he'll come cheap --> same situation as Hill

Add another veteran point guard on the cheap like Flip Murray, or even Stephon if they would take a veterans minimun.  We all know Starbury can afford to. --> same as Hill and Mcdyess.

I'd love to have Sheed since he'd be great at either PF or C off the bench but the problem after that is there'd only be minimum money for vets after that.  With only the minimum to offer, you get players who are only worth that much.  Signing Mcdyess instead might leave something after the MLE to get another FA that could contribute.  Danny's best shot at improving the bench is moving his expiring deals for a better player with a longer contract to team looking to dump salary.

I really think after Danny's comments and with his recent success drafting we will push hard to trade up for a player we want in the draft who can contribute in the rotation next year.

Assets he has to trade.

1. Scal/Scal's expiring contract.  Clearly his biggest trade piece.

2. Walker/Giddens.  Showed definate potential in D league.

3. TA/House.  I dont see him trading house, but TA will be shopped i'm sure.

If ainge sees a legit polished 4/5, athletic 3 who can defend, or PG in the draft he likes, i have little doubt he'll be working the phones to fill in the gaps in our rotation.

Anyone see someone in the draft who wont be a top 5 pick, but could fill one of these roles?
