I was going to start a separate tongue-in-cheek post regarding Ray Allen, but I figure I'll just continue from this thread.
I think Ray Allen will shoot horribly in game 7. I say this, because I feel like I've read articles or posts prior to each of the past 3 or 4 games with people saying they have a "feeling" Ray is gonna bust out with a great shooting performance. And obviously, each time they've been wrong. From Ray's two years with the team, we've seen him go series or stretches where he can't miss, and it's a thing of beauty. We saw it in the Chicago series, and several times before. We've also seen stretches or series where he can't hit the broad side of a barn. We're seeing it right now. And we've also seen games where he's 0-everything, and then comes up with the biggest shot of the game. We saw it in game 5.
What I'm getting at is, we have NO IDEA what Ray is going to do in game 7. What we do know, is that he is going to shoot with confidence, no matter if he-s 2-10 or 8-10.
And for all the sky-is-fallng people, if I had told you that Ray and Rondo would be shooting as poorly as they have in this series, yet we still had a chance to close it out in a 7th game at the Garden, I think you'd be pretty happy with that.
One caveat, though. Whether or not Ray breaks out of his slump on Sunday, the Celtics can still win. They've done it 3 times in this series. However, if they do win, and he puts up a similar performance in the Cleveland series, Sunday could very well be our last win of the season. The Celtics have played one good game out of six this series, and I'm not going to take away from their gritty comebacks in games 1 and 5, and the buzzer beater from Baby. Those were all great. But those things won't fly against the Cavs. If we're down 28 in the 2nd half, or 14 in the 4th quarter against the Cavs, we're going to lose. Their defense is too good, and LeBron is too good.
So it's discouraging to know that the Celtics have only played one good game out of their last 6, but it's encouraging to know that they can still advance to the ECF, and have not come close to playing their best basketball yet.
