before these playoffs we had zero tradeable assets. (aside from rr and kp who are not going anywhere)
this postseason has been a great showcase for big baby. i doubt his trade value will ever be better then this summer. i hope danny can pull of a sign and trade for a longer more athletic swing forward...

Well, to me it seems a little early to start thinking about trading Baby. However, I do agree with the premise that Baby now has some real trade value.

Maybe before Kevin McHale officially leaves the T-wolves, we can swing a Baby for Big Al swap.  ;) Yes, I still miss him.

The very SMARTEST thing we could do this offseason would be to trade BBD while he has nice value for a defensive long SF. That would help our team big time. Let's not wait until he levels off and teams know he has basically hit his peak. BBD has really stepped it up the past few months, but is not a starting PF on a championship team nor will he ever be. Why try to put big dollars out there for a career backup situational big?!

if he becomes overvalued (which might happen - love baby, but he's got limitations), i think we should consider doing a sign and trade. i'd much rather keep him, especially since powe won't be playing until maybe the end of next season, but if teams want to give him starting PF money, we should not match, and instead try to do a sign and trade.

No, that's what you want to do because you don't like him.  The smartest thing we can do is sign him to a reasonable deal.  Powe isn't going to be ready to play until late next season and probably won't be effective until the season after that, if ever.  Also, we don't know how KG is going to be at the start of the season so the C's might need someone to make spot starts for KG.  So we sign BBD and either McDyess or ZaZa and we'll be set with big men.

This would be a mistake when we have Bill Walker, who has big defensive and offensive potential.  People seem to write this guy off and I believe once he tames the beast he can be a very potent player.

THis is the question that puzzles me whenever I think of the S&T with BBD.  How does it benefit the trading partner and how does it benefit Baby (since he'd have to agree).  The points I come up with are as follows (those with more knowledge please chime in):
1) Benefit to Baby: He would not be limited to MLE money in a sign and trade/ could trade to a contender (presumably a team over the cap) for more than MLE
2) Benefit to trading partner: No worry that Boston would match an RFA offer
3) Benefit to trading partner: Could get package with an expiring deal (Scal) and could unload a high salary to clear some cap room for 2010.
4) Benefit to trading partner: Could get BBD without using MLE and thus have MLE available for another player

In terms of #1, we don't have Bird rights, so we can't sign BBD for an amount over the MLE.

He had trade value after last season but, it's hard for me to imagine the C's letting him go.  I watch these games and I see him as a major piece of the future.  He's a hybrid but, he makes plays which is all that matters.  Just like Perk he's worked on his game so much over the past 2 years that would dumb as an organization to let him go which is the main reason I don't DA will make the move.  I guess there could be some team that could overpays for him though.

You can't get much back for a sign and trade. His being an RFA helps us, but he is also a risky pickup, and other teams are aware of that. Does anybody have any sign and trade examples for RFAs comparable to BBD? I don't see how we can get anyone as good as BBD by doing a sign and trade.

Going elsewhere might also be better for his career development, especially since KG will be back healthy for the start of next season. Would he get 20 minutes a game with a healthy lineup?
