He just hasn't been able to adjust his game after a dominating performance. Also can't seem to play at a high level at home vs at the road. And lastly can't believe anthony johnson actually had the best of him tonight when he should have been driving past him easily everytime.

Rondo's issue tonight was that he wasn't driving and passing like he did so well on game 2. He was stagnant and looked confused by magic's adj on defense or nervous with the crowed not behind him

When i saw the team let PP be the pg early 4th quarter you knew it was game over. (I hate it with a passion when we play this way)

On a side note not to bag on pp but i just wonder what the results would have been if he didn't play as much like the last game

Back to rondo. Honestly he doesn't have to shoot great ever because he is an electrifying player regardless its just he needs to bring his A game every single game.

What's a pass first pg to do when your 2 leading scorers are contributing nothing to the game?

Well, in all fairness, he shot the ball more than any of the 2 leading scorers. And one of the leading scorers finished the game with an excellent PPS ratio - because he started playing much better once he stopped relying on the pass first pg to run the offence. More amusingly, the leading scorer finished the game with the same amount of assists than the pass first pg (somehow, BBallTim classifies this as contributing nothing to the game - I'm sure nobody is surprised, but it's always amusing). And the job of the pg is precisely to put his scorers in position to score - something he failed to do.

Yesterday, the team looked much better with Marbury on the court, because Rondo allowed the Magic to play the "just keep an eye on the kid from 15ft away and turn the back on him to double someone else whenever he passes the ball" brand of defence on him.

Rondo needs to stick his open midrange looks. Last night he looked too small and too slow along with the rest of them. He is the leader of the Celtics and his poor play set a very negative tone for the Celtics.
Wins are few, times are hard. Here is your bleeping St Patricks Day Card.

he is the most frustrating player for me to watch.. some games he can be totally dominant and others he seems like he has no idea what he is doing.. I know everyone has off nights but the level of variance Rondo can have with his game is really frustrating to watch.. i really thought he had turned the corned in the bulls series

Excellent summary, Cordobes. It's shocking to me that Rondo doesn't realize he hurts the club playing passive basketball. His body of work is obvious.

And a TP for your recognition in the change in offensive initiation - and the impact it had on the scoring of one of the oft-villified leading scorers on this club. VERY astute observation.

Of course Rondo didn't really shoot the ball more than Pierce, but Paul was fouled on 6 or 7 of his shots so the attempts didn't show up in the box score. If you consider that it took 22 shooting possessions to get those 27 points it's less impressive. If you consider that Pierce did next to nothing until late in the 3rd when the Celts were down by 20 or so, the game he had was similar to Rondo's in game 1, where he did little until the team was down and led a comeback by taking the ball to the hoop and drawing fouls. Of course Rondo was ripped roundly for that game but the Pierce apologists are all over this one. Amusing, but not surprising.

And, just for fun, I'll point out that while Paul "started playing much better once he stopped relying on the pass first pg to run the offence", he probably wasn't relying on Rondo to run the offense because Rajon was on the bench. Paul didn't take a single foul shot until Rondo came out near the end of the 3rd quarter. In fact, the reason you felt Marbury played so well was because he wasn't running the offense, Paul was taking it in and getting fouled on most of the possessions. Are you really trying to say that Paul was having a good offensive game before late in the 3rd, or do you just not understand how Paul and Ray making any kind of significant contribution to the offense might have an impact on Rondo's assist total?

He was referring to the defense. Marbury was playing closer to his man and was generally just playing tougher defense. Rondo for whatever reason seemed to be caught day dreaming over and over.

That quote talks about the defense the magic played on Rondo, not the defense Rondo was playing on the Magic. (Rondo allowed the Magic to play the "..." brand of defense on him).

Rondo was beaten repeatedly on defense, and he played passively with the basketball. He hurt the ballclub last night.

its not about who he was going against (its not like rose is just some rookie either).. your not always going to have the same result but you can at least try a consistent approach
