Where does Rondo rank among NBA PGs today?

I agree with Doc....Rondo changes the game.  When Rondo's jump shot gains some consistency, he will move to No. 1.  In any case, the Cs are lucky to have two solid kids (RR+KP) to build on for the next 5-7 years.

I'll take Rondo over all of them, and I am not joking. I haven't seen Paul or Williams playing lately. Oh yeah, I forgot, they are no longer in the playoffs and neigher of them came within 1 rebound of averaging a triple double for a 7 game series.

I think *way* too much is made of this triple double thing.  Unless, of course, people would prefer Fat Lever over players like Bob Cousy, Isiah Thomas, John Stockon, or heck, even Larry Bird and Michael Jordan.

i think its funny that one guy seems to be used to try to invalidate that historic achievment.

everyone else on that list is a HOF'er and a top 50 player.

The poster I was responding to implied that, because Rondo had nearly averaged a triple double but CP3 and Williams hadn't, he was the better player.

I disagreed with that reasoning, and used an example to show why I don't think you can use stats like triple doubles to decide who the best player is.  Plenty of great players have averaged triple doubles over a playoff series.  Plenty of great players haven't, as well.

I too would take Rondo over all of them. He's not the best PG, but he's the most exciting. No other player gives me the same emotional highs and lows... although I wouldn't mind foregoing the lows when he becomes that consistent player.

Devin Harris, Mo Williams, Jameer Nelson.

But yeah, in my opinion, Rondo is the best natural point guard/ all around player in the East. But the league...

It's a tough question, and I'm not even sure about that order. It's definately a debatable topic because there are so many good point guards in the league.

Yeah, it's a long list right now. I agree with some others here: Paul, Williams, Billups, Parker, Rondo. Rose could move up the list quickly, but he's mostly potential right now. Nash's awful defense knocks him down a few pegs for me -- I think Jason Kidd is still hanging on in the top ten, but probably not for long. Nelson had a great year, but let's see if he can do it again (his FG% was a bit off his career norms, and that may not be repeatable). Harris is great, but I prefer "pure" point guards to shoot-first guys (though a motivated and healthy Baron Davis would probably belong somewhere on this list).

I'd probably take Rondo over Parker going forward, though I could also see taking Rose over Rondo for the next ten years, even if Rondo is clearly much better now... Anyway, I think he'll be in the top 3 or 4 at the position for a long time to come.

Only five players in the history of the game have ever averaged a triple double for a playoff series. To me, five is not plenty. Don't try and diminish the fact that Rondo has put up extraordinary numbers thus far in the playoffs. Though he just barely missed averaging a triple double last playoff series, Rondo was and is in elite company, not the company of "plenty of good players."

He should be about number 5.

By the way.. Rondo's defense is FAR superior to Chris (defensive 1st team) Paul.

By the way, Tony Parker has got to be the most overrated PG in the NBA. He's good, but he's no superstar. - poor to mediocre defense, streaky outside shot, undersized, average passer for a PG.

He's got speed, an improved mid range game and Tim Duncan.
