I think this kinda sucks. As much as Manny has become an enemy to Boston fans, it makes people question our world series wins now...I also kinda thought he was not really the kinda guy to do this- even though that thought has been thrown out the window...geez

I doubt this will happen, sounds like a result of a botched prescription by his doctor (at least, that's the company line, and I'm inclined to believe it until I hear more).  He won those Championships with us years ago, and all reports are this was not a steroid/HGH issue.

If the glove don't fit, you must acquit!  ;D

This has to be a mistake. Manny would not sacrifice his reputation just to get juiced, especially after seeing what happens to guys who get caught. Something just ain't right.

I wonder how long he's been doing it, my theory is if you get caught, it ain't because you just started.

unreal

two official nails in the coffin for me...

1. whatever lingering love I had for the "misunderstood" Manny is about done

2. whatever holier than thou attitude I had over the Yanks is about done now too

baseball FAIL

just wait a few years until basketball gets targeted.  there are more PED users in the NBA than the obvious ones (Dwight, Lebron)

well, this pretty much confrims my thought that the entire era was tainted, and the non-users were few and far between.

its not shocking to me that suddenly older power hitters (yes, im looking at you david) no longer hit 35+ and the game is returning to younger sluggers.

Don't usually agree with you, but absolutely - Dwight Howard's shoulders really, really remind me of how Ben Johnson's shoulders looked in the 88 Olympics.  And it's not just the obviously overbulked guys, either.

ahh, I honestly laughed when I saw this on ESPN.

and he loses 8 million dollars.  awesome.  couldnt happen to a better person.

I think as others have mentioned, this isnt necessarily a PED or a steroid.  Sure, there is likely no way we ever know exactly what tripped the test, but at this point, who knows.

Manny's story does seem a little shady to me - he said he got the stuff from a doctor, and didn't know it was banned?

The obvious response to this is to claim "he's lying".  But what if he isn't?  There is a stock-market conspiracy thread about this being a distraction...is it so far fetched?  Manny is the easiest of targets - for obvious reasons.

Let's see - he was being "difficult" during contract negotiations and ended up getting more than they wanted to pay him.  In less than half a season last year, he nearly single-handedly carried them to the penant.  If he's really as good as they think he is - is a 50 day absence without pay really going to make a difference for them in the postseason?

So let's see - cause a distraction with allegations on an easy target, recoup 8 million dollars....hmm.....
God bless and good night!

This is sarcasm correct?  If not what do you think Manny's reputation is?

A lot of the positive test for pro players is a result of 'shady stories'.  JC Romero tested positive and recieved a 50 game ban as a result of something banned but not listed on the ingredients of a common supplement from GNC.  going over to the nfl, four players were suspended last year for taking diuretics.

The stock market conspiracy is laughably stupid (no offense to anyone who believes it is possible...)  the liability if that were ever to come out would be astronomical for whoever did that.  not to mention, a steroid test isnt exactly going to distract mainstream america from the tanking stock market.  not to mention, that would be implying the government (I assume) falsified the drug test...   If true, Manny would have appealed.  but he waived his right to an appeal.  Additionally, there would be better targets.  basically any star on the Yankees or Red Sox would be better.

If eighty percent of MLB players are using some kind of performance enhancing drug, why is it cheating? Just let these guys juice up and hit dingers. That's all the casual fan wants to see anyway.
