it's important to note that manny was suspended under 8.g.2

    G. Other Violations

    1. For purposes of the penalties in Sections 8.B and 8.C above, a positive test result reported prior to the first 2006 spring training voluntary reporting date shall not be considered in determining the number of times that a Player has tested positive under the Program.

    2. A Player may be subjected to disciplinary action for just cause by the Commissioner for any Player violation of Section 2 above not referenced in Section 8.A through 8.F above.

this is leading many to speculate that he hasnt actually tested positive for steroids, but rather was caught with HGH

If eighty percent of MLB players are using some kind of performance enhancing drug, why is it cheating? Just let these guys juice up and hit dingers. That's all the casual fan wants to see anyway.

These stories don't faze me anymore.  Would it shock anyone at this point if it's ever found that Selig started a whole steroid ring and got every major star to take them while the clean guys were told to shut their mouths or face the consequences?  These people keep on coming out, and Selig continues to destroy baseball.  I hope he goes to jail for life at some point.

Nope.  Not only does this topple the lineage of an historic game and the achievements of the old greats, it creates an abusive system where young people who make it to the big leagues begin doping in order to keep up with high expectations.

They tried this w/ football for awhile, let folks just juice it up and let em play.  Not only did it kill off a bunch of great athletes, it also turned a huge population of players into junkies.

This Manny thing is a huge blow to the Dodgers. Does he still get paid during suspension?

No

Wow.  Hadn't seen the 50 game suspension part til now.

Really this is the first case of a big start actually getting punished for this by MLB isn't it?

He's easily the biggest name caught and punished by MLB, no question about it. The previous biggest name was Palmeiro.

Jose Guillen, Mike Cameron, Matt Lawton, Jay Gibbons... Not quite on his level.

Here's a fun trivia question... 22 players have been suspended while on major league rosters. What 2 teams have the most punished cheaters?

Anybody have a guess?

The man shook his head. "O.J. doesn't give out his cell," he said. "He'll call you."

Someone else in the thread guessed Rangers and Orioles, but he messed up the quotes so the answers weren't easy to see.

Well, it sure as hell won't be our beloved Sox.  Selig had one of our board members, a fossil political hack, do the phony steroid investigation.

This is probably payback for Manny's act while with the Sox pre-trade.  MLB has absolutely zero credibility on this subject.

what was phony about it? all the guys on it have fessed up, so apparently it wasn't so phony afterall.

the reason they were all NY yankees was because the snitch that provided 75% of the info after getting a plea deal to stay out of jail was a yankee trainer.

Everyone in that era used. If the oakland athletics trainer had been caught in a  sting and took a plea deal, all the players named would have been A's. Just sucks for the yanks thier guy was a rat.

I know one of them is the Mariners.  Or at least, the Mariners organization; I know they've had a ton of minor leaguers suspended, and a couple major leaguers, too.  I was reading the other one somewhere recently, and now I can't remember which organization it was or where I read it.  I'll guess Braves.
