Double-teaming Dwight is just a bad idea. He really isn't a scorer and doesn't have great low post moves at all. . . .He has NEVER taken a game over offensively. It's just not his game.
Hmm... I'm not sure I completely agree with you there. Howard has two games in the playoffs scoring 30+ points, and he has a bunch of regular season games in the high 20s, low 30s, etc. Against Charlotte, he scored 45.
I will agree that Howard gets his points more by being a bull than he does via good post moves. However, the guy is still a highly efficient player who led his team in scoring. To say he's not a scorer or that he can't take over a game is, to me, inaccurate.
You forgot to mention that each of those playoff games where he scores over 30, his team lost. And that 45 pt effort netted his team a only a narrow 5 point win over the lowly (pre-trade) Bobcats. I wouldn't call that 'taking over'.
My point is that we're much better off making DH carry the scoring load by single covering him than we are doubling and trying to survive the barrage of 3 point shooters. Doubling him is playing right into their hands. If he gets 40+, I'm willing to bet his team doesn't clear 85 points for the game.
Conversely, if he is the only one who has it going late in the game and we are staying home on all their 3 pt shooters, I like my chances especially considering his 57% career playoff FT average.
