... this was easily the 2nd best game I have ever witnessed after the Phoenix vs Celtics triple overtime gem back in the 70's.

... after the 1981 Sixers-Celtics epic 7 game series in 1981 where Boston came back from 3-1 down to win with three nail biters in the final three games, this is the best series I've ever seen.

... the refs were terrific, stupendous, incredible and nearly flawless in this game which makes this easily one of the best games in recent NBA history. So many famous games since the Jordan era were famous because of close games and some controversy over the officiating. This was a flawlessly called game that had two teams hitting each other back and forth and the players decided who won and lost. Unbelievable!

Maybe someone should tell David Stern that manipulating game outcomes through officiating, or through choosing who refs what games, doesn't need to happen as, if he just let the players decides who wins and loses that the game of basketball will sell itself due to the drama involved.

... Boston has solidified their core stars going forward in the future. Maybe Perk and Baby won't be NBA superstars, but this series has been their coming out party in telling the NBA that they will be warrior, dependable, tough, poised, B-level star players with a championship pedigree for a long time to come. The Rondo, Baby, and Perk trio who are 23, 23 and 24 years old collectively is an extraordinary trio of very young players that all have championship rings and have shown that they will and can and do produce in the most important of games. How many teams can say that?

... I think, win or lose, this Celtics team and Doc Rivers should be loved in this town forever because with the adversity of being down so many players late in the season including their star player, having to play their star players big minutes to secure playoff seeding, and playing a team much younger through 7 overtime periods in six games and having players fouling out, they still came at the Bulls and played unbelievably great ball. Doc has done fabulous coaching over the last two months and this team has shown the heart and poise and dignity of one of the greatest teams of all time.

... the most games Mikki Moore will ever play in a Celtics uniform is lower by one game.

... Eddie House finally hit a shot and it was an important one under pressure. Maybe that will springboard him onto a great game 7 and hopefully an extended playoff postseason to come.

... the Celtics finally started playing Celtic championship defensive basketball in the second half and made most of the Bulls possessions tough ones to score on.

... if they lose Saturday night they will get the nice long Summer this team desperately needs to heal, re-energize and remake itself for what will be a championship team next year. As a matter of fact, I will guarantee that if the Celtics lose game 7 at home to the Bulls, they will win it all next year. GUARANTEED. It would be the equivalent of the 1983 sweep at the hands of the Bucks that propelled the Celtics to the 1984 Championship and banner #15.

Other than going overboard and calling Perkins and Davis stars, I agree with most of what you write. I don't think a Perkins, Davis Rondo core is going to win you many championships in the future.

If I could give you a 100 TP's I would. You and I are on the exact same page, to a T. I'll give you one TP for now but feel free to remind in the future that I owe you and I will hit you up no question.

I've been thinking ever since this series started, "man, if this team gets all its pieces together, WATCH OUT". What a great young nucleus to pair with three aging superstars who can fade into the night just as the next trio enters its collective prime!

While this may seem like a dark time in Celtics history (this loss), it is actually an immensely hopeful one that leaves me feeling pretty good, despite the crushing loss.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

That wasn't a great game because the Celtics made too many poor plays that ended up costing them the game.

Among them:

Rondo's 2 missed FT's after the Celtics run in the 4th -- which should have been the knockout punch.

TA's two misses -- not to mention him shooting in the first place on the possessions following those FT's.

Doc allowing Baby to give 2 valuable fouls when he could have subbed Scal and had him do it.

Baby's dumb assed 6th foul

Rondo's refusal to penetrate and look for his offense

The C's taking way too long to get into their offense -- making it easier for the Bulls to defend.

Great game yes, but the Celtics blew it moreso than Chicago won it.

Although I'm frustrated by every kind of adversity we've faced, this one makes me proud to be a Celtics' fan!! TP...

I somewhat agree, although in my opinion, they blew the game after making a great surge to get an 8-point lead with three minutes remaining in regulation. Doc puts in TA, bad move number 1, then Rondo misses two free throws badly and on the next possession is not even close on a jump shot. So while I am proud of the effort in OT, there never should have been an OT.

I know, some really bad mistakes happened out there... but it's part of the game!! These little things are just as little as KG's injury: it could have never happened as well!! These are some bad moments and, generally, I think we got very unlucky this year... Let's hope next year we'll be as lucky as the other title contenders at least... :-\

I'm not going to dwell on mistakes in this thread. You can point out all the mistakes you want that led to a loss tonight but I was thoroughly entertained to a point that I seldom ever am. The great and smart plays in this game outweighed the bad or dumb mistakes by a huge, gigantic margin, and if the Celtics weren't involved I still would have been glued to my set watching with utter fascination and respect for what both teams brought to the floor tonight.

Losing sucks. It always does and we can rehash and relive every bad pass, bad shot, bad substitution, bad call, and bad mistake all we want but out team just gave us a game and a series and a year to remember forever and that is something that should be looked upon with Green colored glasses and with happiness for it is easy to see that even without those shades the future is bright for our team.

Awesome sentiments, the kind I try to keep nearer to my mind than thoughts about the quality of the sixth fouls taken by our front court starters tonight, and exactly when Tony Allen lost his head on an easy lay-up and decided to make up for it with a wild runner. He's pretty good on defense, watching the film, but it just doesn't add up with those choices. If Steph hadn't passed on every shot he had, maybe he would have seen the floor instead.

One upside you missed though; Ray is obviously far from spent in his NBA career. That was incredible, from start to finish, for the new all-time three point franchise record holder for makes in any game. Sure it went towards defeat, but this series will be all the more glorious for this dark loss when the light shines through on Saturday.

I had to add this edit afterwards; Antoine Walker also hit nine triples as a Celt, and did it in two games. Wild. Could we have gotten him instead of Mikki Moore at the trade deadline? C'mon Mikki, play for a contract or something if you get in there again.
