Probably.

I wish that skillset was available to Doc every night - whether it be Posey or a player of similar skills. We haven't gotten close to replacing those skills.

This is true. Pierce is being worn down steadily by the ridiculous burden he has had to shoulder this season--and every time he goes out our bench struggles to score in a glaring way. I would take Posey right now--fat or not.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Posey has had issues in the past staying "trim". He and Antoine Walker were disciplined by Pat Riley the year after they won the championship with the Heat. I don't think his conditioning got worse this year. If anything, he's played pretty well this year for the Hornets.

Posey's play shouldn't be blame, though his signing might be part of the problem. Perhaps a different 3 and resigning Pargo might have worked better.

NO also played over their heads last year. This might be a bit of regression to the mean.

Yeah. Depricating his game has become a cottage industry on this board among the "Ainge does no wrong" crowd. The depths that people have gone here to make up nonsense about his game has reached comic status. Get a couple of brews in Doc Rivers, and it'd be fun to get a little hops-driven analysis of what's missing on his bench.

Thing is, I'm less than convinced Posey was Ainge's decision. It'd be FAR more accurate on my part to take out after management, I suspect, on the bench issue than just Danny. Every move we've made since the title seems to be the cheapest option available. Although, I wouldn't call the money we're wasting on Tony Allen's contract cheap.

As I've said many times before, I've never been locked into having Posey on this roster.

What I'm locked into is a backup on the bench with some degree of versatility - the ability to shoot the basketball, enough size to defend on the perimeter and dip inside on occasion, play with some physicality, play intelligently (a particular issue on this club off the bench), play with consistent effort.

Some of those qualities are flatly absent on this bench, in addition to poor approximations of the others.

When you subtract all those qualities and fail to replace a bunch of them, it's quite the risk - especially on a club where injuries are in play.
Actually, without KG, we don't even know whether we sufficiently replaced Posey.

Right, and how many guys like this are available around the NBA?

Been dining out too much in N'awlins with his excess contract I see.

Without Posey, I bet N'awlins H-nuts would not be in the playoffs.

That doesn't mean you pay more than he is worth.

That has nothing to do with my comment. I was just entertained with the concept. Just for the record -- players like the one described in the quote are a rarity, not a norm.

I don't know about Posey getting fat.  In fact looking at his numbers they are comparable to last year and it's the most points he has averaged in 5 years.  In they had a healthy Chandler and Peja's play hadn't slipped maybe they would be at least as good as they were last year.   I think part of the Hornets problem is they have too many role players at the wing spot and no real star there.  Peja is a shadow of his former self.

I think that Danny was right not to give Posey this huge contract but I find it really ironic (and sad) that his new team gets crushed at home and won't pass the first round when we desperately need a reliable 3 who can play good defense (on Ben Gordon, for example) and hit some big threes (at the end of double overtime games) while allowing Paul to get some rest.

For the record anytime someone says wacka wacka, or types wacka wacka or thinks wacka wacka I laugh. It is always funny.

Posey is reminding me of Tim Thomas in his year with Phoenix. He goes out, busts out for that big year before the free agent summer, then banks on a contract and doesn't completely live up to the dollar signs. Have you noticed Tim Thomas back in Chicago, and i remember reading this to be another chance for him there, not just a salary trade, but he hasn't played a minute this series that i've seen

Ben Gordon will be that guy next year, mark my words.

He has contract year Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. written all over him this year
