Expiring contracts should be in demand, so Tony+Scals* should be able to be used to bring back a decent bench player (though not Posey, as someone said above, nor Nocioni -- been there and could of done that

I think I am the person you are referencing, and I appreciate your sentiment. But to be fair, the Posey situation is quite different now. Over the summer Danny had to ask himself "Is it worth it to add that kind of additional salary when we already have House (or TA) and Scal?" The question now is, "Are TA (or House) and Scal better than Posey?" The second scenario doesn't add any more money to the yearly cap like the first scenario. It simply swaps equal yearly salary for a player that is better than the other two. I agreed with not signing Posey under the constraints of the first scenario. I would, however, do the second scenario.

To me if we can get Marbury to sign a contract knowing he will not start, that would fill a huge need for this offseason.

If we are going to keep House, we have to have a legit PG that can handle and distribute the ball.  Steph has shown he can do that.  As long as he can accept that he can not demand big money anymore, he should fill a need at a good price.

Hopefully that will leave enough money for a big and a wing to spell PP.

I think with baby's increased role it has become significantly less likely that the Celtics would go after Sheed instead saving the money or perhaps using it on a veteran swing man who could take some minutes from Allen/Pierce if Bill Walker doesn't continue to mature.

I think it is unlikely the Cs go after Sheed, regardless; he will just be too expensive.
BBD will be nice off the bench, but the Cs still have a need for a long back up big, IMHO.  Moore is long, but he just isn't good enough.  Zaza Pachulia, maybe?

You make a good point.  I guess all else equal, I would prefer a younger and cheaper player than Posey.  And I think that $5+M in expiring contracts will be fairly valuable around the league.  I love the idea of Travis Outlaw -- but the Cs will need to cough up something dear to get him, since he also has an expiring contract...

I would like to Sheed in Green.

Either way, next year is a the hurrah for the team as we know it. I hope The Cs go out and land some reserve talent to deepen the team on the bench.

Couldn't agree more about Outlaw. I'd love to get him too, but as you rightly point out, I don't envision Portland giving him up. Since his contract is expiring anyway, our expirings certainly won't motivate them. I wonder if they would be interested in dealing Martell Webster. He might be interesting.
