  • The good ole days.
I hate to add more fuel to the fire, as I think the whole KG's knee situation is starting to distract the team, but here is an article from SI about the opinions of 5 anonymous NBA trainers.  Long story short, they see two possible outcomes: 1) The Celtics are lying about the seriousness of KG's injury, or 2) He will likely be back in these playoffs if the Celtics can hang around a while.

(Apologies if this is a repost, I didn't see it anywhere.)

This entire situation is highly dubious.  I don't know who's hiding what, or who's at fault.  But this has gone beyond the point of a distraction for the team.  Obviously KG did not intend for it to happen, but he has become the Terrell Owens of the Boston Celtics' playoff run.  I'm sure it's not his fault.  Or Danny's.  Or Doc's.  But now every press conference and every article has to include a caveat about Garnett's knee.  Not good times. . .  :(

Please just shoot me.

The whole having him on the bench in the 1st and not in the second is just distracting.

Pull the trigger.

Luckily we aren't the team, so we can be as distracted as we want without repercussion  ;)  I agree with the article - KG's injury, as described publicly by the C's, shouldn't be bad enough to keep him out this long and re-incapacitate him after he played 4 games a month ago.

I would add the third possibility that C.) the C's staff doesn't know the full extent of the injury because there's something they've missed.  I really hope it's not that one because that's really alarming.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I stil maintain that he'll be back, but I also don't buy the "he's a distraction" angle.

Ask any media person, actual Celtic player, fan, anybody they will tell you that while KG wasn't the best offensive player on the celtics last year and last post season, they wouldn't have traded a minute he played because A) he's a defensive beast, and B) he's the heart of this team.

By all counts he's selfless, and passionate, possibly to a fault. Anyone who says they don't want a guy like that on their team, even in street clothes if nessecary, is lying. Its not like he's an ex girlfriend these guys need to put outta their head to move on with their lives...he's a freakin teammate man. Let him scream from the bench.

I will also say this, and I will first qualify it with: I know its not the same exact thing

But in 12 grade during my football senior game (last home game of the regular season), at the end of the first half, I got chop blocked, 2 guys, same knee. Problem is that I was 290 pounds, and my leg stayed still. Anyone who knows football knows that 2 things can happen there; one, nothing or two, a lot of bad stuff starting with torn ligaments. That means cya for a minimum of a month or six.

Well anyways I sulked, skipped practice the next few days, concentrated on girls and school...but then I show up to practice the following thursday and my coach cornered me and screams at me. He tells me darn it, Im a captain on this team, and he doesn't care if I need a wheelchair to get around (which didn't, jsut crutches), I will be there for all the pre game stuff on friday and I will not miss another practice. We're a team, and a team sticks together even if they're hurt.'

So I don't care about how angry KG gets, he ought to be on the bench. Thats how teams work.

I'm one of the biggest KG supporters/justiefiers out there, but I agree.  I've gone an adidas shirt that says "We Not Me" with a "Kevin Garnett" signature below it.  It's time he practiced what he preaches in all his ads, in my opinion.  It might be hard as hell for him to see his team struggle and not be able to do anything... but so what, if they want you on the bench, there should be no discussion.

NBA Trainers suspicious of KG's injury diagnosis.  That is why this is not making sense and making us look bad.  This guy is supposed to stop a bullet with his teeth, he is supposed to stop a locomotive dead in its tracks by standing in front of it and crushing it with his chest.  Did anyone see Baby's knee turn against the Knicks last year, I thought he would be out for the season.   Because 1.KG's injury didn't look that bad on the court.  2.He played 4 games last month.  3.The diagnosis isn't that bad. 4.Other trainers are questioning what really is going on here.  5.Its KG we are talking about.  All of the pieces aren't adding up like they should.
