Get the surgery, get healed up, take it easy in the offseason, play no more than 57 games next year, taking a couple games off a week once a month.
KG's already had played more regular season games in his career than Barkley, McHale, Bird, Wilt, Isiah, Thurmond, Russell, Lanier, Dantley, West, Cousy, Magic, Schayes, etc ever did in their careers. He's not a spry chicken and he should be treated as such for the next three years of that contract.
As far as the speculation and groaning that he should've had the surgery long ago... it was diagnosed as a strain, I don't think surgery for a strain is normal. I fully believe the trainers, doctors, coaches, management, and KG thought it would heal as most strains do. And I think it was... then the news of this spur came along and it seemed that caused a setback, and by the time surgery became a realistic option I think it was too late to salvage anything this season... the only chance for KG in the playoffs was to hope it healed with rest. I'm as upset as anyone that KG isn't playing right now... I am still having a hard to acknowledging that he's even hurt and am trying to act like it's not real and that I'm going to wake up and everything will be fine... but that doesn't appear to be the case.
