Any lingering speculation regarding a return by Kevin Garnett in these playoffs should be coming to an end soon. According to sources, Garnett is seeking a date to have surgery on his right knee sooner rather than later.

“The knee is hurting him too bad right now,” one source said. “He just can’t play.”

According to another person with knowledge of the situation, Garnett sought advice from non-Celtic medical sources on remedies that could allow him to play through the end of this season. And there were points in recent weeks when it seemed the program of rest and rehab were working and that Garnett would be able to go. But when the soreness returned and increased, the options went away.

my guess is the C's wanted to do the surgery long ago but KG felt he could rehab it and gut it out through the playoffs...the fact he went outside the organization to find a remedy says a lot...ge tthe surgery done asap and lts all look toward next season

Good. Let's get a surgeon in there and get that knee fixed.

Ditto.  Sooner rather than later means he will have more time to heal before next season.  He can't help us this season, so why delay?

Exactly. This is shaping up as a critical off-season for the Celtics' short-term future.

Let's hope it goes better than last summer.

Sooner rather than later would have been February.
God bless and good night!

I agree. What the heck was KG doing playing in the All-Star game? >:(
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

It doesn't matter. It will always be something. I'm thinking now "Bad Karma" will be the haters mantra.

He should have had the surgery a month ago.

  • The good ole days.
Get the surgery, get healed up, take it easy in the offseason, play no more than 57 games next year, taking a couple games off a week once a month.

KG's already had played more regular season games in his career than Barkley, McHale, Bird, Wilt, Isiah, Thurmond, Russell, Lanier, Dantley, West, Cousy, Magic, Schayes, etc ever did in their careers.  He's not a spry chicken and he should be treated as such for the next three years of that contract.

As far as the speculation and groaning that he should've had the surgery long ago... it was diagnosed as a strain, I don't think surgery for a strain is normal.  I fully believe the trainers, doctors, coaches, management, and KG thought it would heal as most strains do.  And I think it was... then the news of this spur came along and it seemed that caused a setback, and by the time surgery became a realistic option I think it was too late to salvage anything this season... the only chance for KG in the playoffs was to hope it healed with rest.  I'm as upset as anyone that KG isn't playing right now... I am still having a hard to acknowledging that he's even hurt and am trying to act like it's not real and that I'm going to wake up and everything will be fine... but that doesn't appear to be the case.

I'm not a fan of the "should have" comments with 20/20 hindsight.

Hopefully his surgery will go well.
