I am going to miss this guy a lot.

Personally I see the Holy Trinity as

Madden - NFL

Keith Jackson - College Football

Dick Vitale - College Basketball

I've lost two out of three. Oh God! Why have you forsaken us?

The guy definitely had lost his fastball over the last decade or so but still one of the better tv analysts out there covering football.  When he and Summerall were in their prime, there was nothing better.  You knew it was a big game when Madden was on the scene.

That being said, one of my lasting impressions of him will be from Super Bowl XXXVI when he thought the Patriots should play for overtime with a little over a minute to go and the Pats deep in their own territory.  Thankfully, Belichick & Weis felt otherwise.  ;D

True but when your fastball is ten times faster than anyone elses....

I just can't think of anyone I'd rather listen to or anyone I think can rise up and become the legend he is.

If someone asks me who's my next favorite guy other than the other MNF guy (The name escapes me. Really famous. I feel like an idiot. The guy who said "Do you believe in miracles...) I'd be like um.....Phil Simms?

It was time.  he lost the fastball a long time ago.  unfortunately, his changeup was gone too.

I wont miss him...(although I dont doubt at one point he was a great analyst)

Maybe my favorite moment in NFL broadcasting was about 10 years ago when Madden, apropos of nothing, started talking about how a grizzly bear would make a great offensive lineman.  He went on for what seemed like quite awhile (game must've been boring) - eventually they brought up some footage of a bear scooping up salmon and he used the Telestrator to show how the scooping motion would make an excellent swim move.  It was completely random, hilarious, and yet still informative about football.

I guess what I'm saying is they don't make em like that anymore... :(
