This is not a complaining thread about PJ's choice to retire (I totally approved it, it was great to see him retire after having won a championship even if I'd have been glad to see him play again this year) or about Mikki's performances (I like Mikki and what he brings to the team, and I'm sure he will perform well in the playoffs). It's a "tribute thread" to PJ.

I watched again some videos of last year's championship run and I'm still amazed by how much PJ brought on the court and off the court. Everyone remembers his huge plays against Cleveland in the game 7 and in the Finals but I think he was a big presence in the locker room and on the bench, he had the "veteran role" and he fullfilled it perfectly, he was a mentor for the rest of the team. It was really great to see him get a ring before he retired and I was a little bit disappointed that he didn't come in Boston to get his ring on the opening night.

Plus, the guy was really classy and he knew how to respond to Lakers fans and their trash (dumb?) talking (see under, 00:20 mark).

I just miss PJ's presence, I wonder if you feel the same, and I hope he is enjoying his retirement. I'll remember him as a great Celtic, even if he played just four months for the team and I guess it says a lot about the guy to be remembered this way though he didn't even play a year for the C's.

The antithesis of Mikki Moore!  Not a whole lot of wasted enrgy from PJ, just a solid presence.

I miss P.J., too.  Last year, he basically came out of nowhere; him deciding to join the Celts seemed like a pipe dream, and then all of a sudden he ended up signing.  That was one of the many enjoyable memories from last season.

P.J. was the type of crafty veteran that this team could have used.  He's tough and smart, and has a veteran savvy that is missing amongst this year's bigs on the bench (no respect to Powe and BBD -- they're just young.)

I dont miss PJ brown...at all

he came here to win a ring, retired and wouldnt come back to help repeat.
He seems like a great guy, and he hit a big shot in a game 7, other then that his contributions to last years team are greatly overrated, and even irritating

Example:
Mikki moore has already played over 140 more minutes in the regular season for us then PJ did last season, and 1 more game
Mikki has scored 84 pts and grabbed 84 rebounds and is shooting 57% (37 of 64), Last regular season PJ scored 30 pts and grabbed 68 rebounds while shooting 34% (14 of 41) in the regular season.

The above is the perfect argument for why statistics don't accurately measure a player's contribution.

Hows that? PJ brown was awful in the regular season last year, and the stats show it...he finally got it together late in the playoffs and was serviceable at best, his defense and rebounding were overrated...i dont remember being excited with PJ brown on the court.

Can we equate in the negative stuff somehow for Mikki?

The guy who would of been great for us was Antonio McDyess, but when Denver bought him out he went back to the Pistons. I wonder if he knew then what he knows now (the Pistons aren't contenders anymore0 if he would have signed with us?

Would that change the fact that PJ Brown brought us next to nothing last regular season, and was an overrated contributor in the playoffs? (2 or 3 good plays, other then that complete mediocrity)

The overrated part is subjective, which you're entitled to, and no, he didn't do much in the regular season, but since we're putting him up in a numbers game against Mikki, I think it's fair to bring up that PJ was seldom a negative factor on the court - as Mikki has often been.

Well, I was talking about PJ's contribution in the playoffs but overall his presence was a plus for the team. I mean, you're not seriously saying that he was "overrated" because he did nothing in the regular season but hit "a big shot" (I think you overlook how big it was, if he hadn't make it the C's would probably have lost the game) in the game 7 against Cleveland?

Noone wanted him taking that shot (because he had been so awful up until then)

and no I dont subscribe to any notion we dont win that game if it wasnt for PJ...ah yes, pierce goes mano a mano with lebron, and its PJ browns jumpshot that we wouldnt have won without...what about the freethrows we made thereafter, the jumpball? etc etc... we dont know what happens if PJ doesnt take or make that shot...hmm maybe paul pierce hits a 3? I just think its dumb to think "if it wasnt for PJs jumper celtics dont win that game"

I not only think hes overrated because he literally brought us nothing in the regular season but because he averaged 2/2 in the playoffs, and Leon shouldve been playing more then him. and like youre saying "we dont win without PJ"
Overrated.

James Posey..now theres a guy I miss
