I guess everyone has seen the news here but Doc's interview has been added on Celtics.com and he gives more details about his decision to shut KG down. He acknowledged that is was a setback and said this (from NESN) :

Quote
The recovery is just not progressing the way we anticipated it would progress.

He also said that he planned to get KG back in practice during the current stretch because the team will spend a week in Boston but that was not possible for Garnett because of his slow recovery.

While I think that the staff is being true to us by saying that they are just being cautious and that the recovery isn't progressing at it was supposed to, I'm worried about the team's flow and rythm because obviously KG will return at the very end of the season (for the Cleveland game) if not for the playoffs.

It might be worse than they're telling us, but as I said in another post, I don't think there's any conspiracy theory where Doc and Co. are just trying to trick the opposition that KG will be back when he really won't.  If KG doesn't come back, it doesn't matter how much we trick the opposition.

Maxwell last night on CSN said that Garnett was noticeably dragging his knee around at the Magic game and that Tony Battie told him after the game that it was obvious that KG was hurting during the game. I think it's pretty clear in light of today's decision that KG is not going to be able to sustain himself through the playoffs. IOW we're in deep trouble. If everyone else were healthy, I think we'd still have an outside chance for a title with LA being the biggest obstacle, but that's not going to happen either.

With everyone healthy...an outside chance? pfft...I think we'd repeat....too bad we will not be 100% the rest of the year and neither will KG..

And cleveland would be a bigger obstacle then LA, as they were last year. The magic might even be a tougher out then LA

I think it's ironic that KG is the one that has fallen apart quickest from the big 3.  All the talk when they were first put together was that Ray Allen might have nothing left because a guard his age with his ankle problems shouldnt be able to play at his previous level.

Until someone in the organization comes out and says he is done for the playoffs, I'm going to continue to assume that he'll be back for the playoffs, get his feet under him in the first round and be back to as close to his normal self as he can by the second round.

I'm going to continue to assume that him not playing these next 4 games is just extreme caution because of what they saw in practice.

I think it might be a bit premature to say that KG has fallen apart.

I think they will play KG sparingly until the playoffs and then play as much as he needs to in the playoffs.  He won't need much time to get his game back.  If he can play though whatever lingering pain he has, then we compete for a championship.  If the knee really is that bad, then we go home early.

Tony Allen will probably be less of a factor than he normally would be.  He took a long time to get his game back going last year (he actually never really did).  A hand is a different injury than a knee but I think he will be rusty and a rusty Tony Allen is not much help.  I am also not expecting much from Leon.  He will probably not be 100% and he needs to be to be effective.  BBD and MM will get those minutes and it won't make much difference either way.

I said if everyone else were healthy, we'd have an outside shot.

i have to think that KG won't be available for much during the playoffs....this combined with powe, scal tells me boston wins the first series and gets bounced in the second round...they are just too injured to make a long run. i think KG needs surgery but is just trying to manage the pain to get though the season.....def. think the C's are running on borrowed time

problem is they brought him back...something wasn't right...then they sit him for 3 more announcing that atlanta was most likely a comeback...now it is until the last 3 games of the season....next it will be out until the playoffs....then it will be out for the forst round of the playoffs...etc.....etc...he is hurt worse than expected and i think doc and danny thought he would have responded by now...and he clearly hasnt
