On top of that, there are lots of "ifs" with Smith and Gooden too. Gooden - if he smartens up and doesn't get injured. Smith - can defend a chair being the biggest one.

I just don't get it, the main reason we didn't sign Poze is that he asked for to much money, and now we have SM and MM and still after free agents

Let him go to Cleveland and they will be exactly what they were last season with the exception of Mo Williams. Screw 'em.

Give Stephon some time to shake off some major rust and we'll be just as deep and have the psychological advantage of knowing that we beat them last year and that LeCrabDribble has double the pressure on him to get it done this year.

Saying that he wanted Boston as his first choice is a crock anyway.  Don't lose any sleep over it, fellas (and ladies).  We are a great team.  We will make noise in the playoffs once again.

Competing with three other monsters.  Two of those competitors will improve (Cleveland and San Antonio), and two of them have better records (Cleveland and Los Angeles).

Cleveland couldve improved alot more than a signing of joe smith...this is barely even relevant with the loss ben wallace, it basically brings them back to where they were

San Antonio is somewhat irrelvant, and gooden is dumber than tony allen

The celtics added 2 players, and by doing so improved as well, that and they need to get healthy..Marbury and Moore are better additions than Joe smith and thats it

Moore adds little.  We'll see regarding Starbury.

Imo, smith adds little...just like he added little last year with cleveland and PJ brown added little with us...thats all we need, minor contributions.

So gooden has already made SA better (is it even official?) but we'll have to wait and see regarding our guys? ok

Gooden and Smith have contributed this season, and in recent seasons.  Gooden is averaging 13 and 9.  You don't think he can help?

Starbury didn't play basketball for a year, and has a reputation for being a team cancer.  I'm not ready to label him a savior yet.  I'm not going to decide to blindly ignore this guy's recent past just because he's on the Celtics.

the problem with Mar, IMO, has little to do with his ability. I think  it's pretty clear that he was the most talented player added in this buyout period.

the problem IMO is that he filled a hole that was third most important on a list of three.

we won a Title last year with House as the backup PG.

the problem is we did not fill backup big and backup wing.

so my question is: is the gap between Smith or Gooden and Marbury in terms of skill made up by the fact that S or M would have filled a more pressing need.

or will the fact that Mar is the better significantly more talented player prove more impactful than adding a player of less a talent at a "need" position...

and this, mind you, is if you think that we couldn't have signed both Mar and one of Smith and Gooden.

personally, I think if we hadn't signed Moore we would have grabbed one of the two bigs released yesterday...

For a guy that averaged 20 minutes per game I'd take 7.5 PPG and 4.5 RPG as a big 4 in a playoff series.

Thats good, cause in the playoffs

Moore averaged 6 pts and 4 rebounds in 14 MPG in 99-00
and in 06-07 averaged 11/5 shooting 56% in 30Mpg

Again , he is capable of having that same series against us as Joe smith had

What was so great about what Joe smith added to cleveland last year? he was a revolving door when they put him on KG and clevelands worst post defender by a large amount, Mikki Moore literally couldve brought to cleveland everything Smith did

Hmm...  well, in the playoffs, Smith held opposing players to an eFG% of 43.1%, so he wasn't too much of a revolving door.  In games 3 through 7 in the playoffs against the Celts last season, he hit 20 out of 29 shots.

look at it like a scale, soap...

if you can acknowledge that CLE is better than they were last year and you acknowledge that they almost beat us last year in the playoffs and they may now have home court advantage this year in the playoffs...

when you look at that way, when you add everything up, then all Smith has to do it tip the scales. he doesn't have to be some all-world player. he just needs to give CLE that little something to change the balance...

and the thing that Smith does for CLE is it allows Varejao to move back into that hugely effective role of  "havoc-reeker". he no longer will have the pressure of being a starter and can just cause trouble.

maybe you don't see that as an important component, but i am worried about it.
