I know this isn't really the topic of the thread, but would we really miss Gabe Pruitt that much?  This is his second year in the league on a team that doesn't have a real backup PG and it's second straight year not getting any real minutes. 

While I'm not saying Horry is the answer, if someone does pop up that suits Ainge's fancy, I don't see anything wrong in cutting Gabe Pruitt.  In all likelihood he'd be available this summer; and if he wasn't, I highly doubt we're going to look back at it three years from now and mourn the day we cut Gabe Pruitt. 

Honestly, I don't know if the owners are willing to eat Pruitt's contract, and bring on a new contract.  This is why I think the only way the C's bring on someone else is if Scal is done for the year, and they get a roster exception, and insurance pays for his contract for the rest of the year.

how does the roster exception work? how long does he have to announce he's out for the year before his replacement won't be allowed to take part in the playoffs?

If Ainge contacted Reggie Miller again (as Reggie openly admitted during All-Star weekend) then you've got to think he wants a solid and true triple-thread option to play the 3/4. Horry could fit the bill but as many have suggested he's old and perhaps washed up (kinda like Reggie).

Can Horry defend the 3? 

The answer is a resounding NO.  And to that point he should not be picked up.  Once KG comes back we will have 3 adequate back up bigs on the bench.  That gives Doc the versatility to pick and choose his spots with subs.  If we need length we have MM, if we need to spread the floor we have BBD, if we can exploit the post we have Powe.  Why would they bring in another back up 4/5?  Especially one who is washed up!

If the C's have a hole on their bench it is at the 3.  The TA/Scal combo can make up for this as they provide matchups, but neither is healthy and neither is a true 3.  Unfortunately, no one who matches that descripiton is available at this point.  Signing players to spots that we already deep in does not solve this.  I am curious why DA didn't make a push for Matt Barnes this summer?

Does he come with a time machine?

Time machine, for me, means getting Bernie King, from the '84 playoffs, to come off the bench for Pierce. Absolutely devastating to the T. It pretty much won't matter whether or not the Cavs or the Lakers, could get Wilt from the 60s, if this was a fair minded time machine swap card.

In effect, any time King gets a catch from KG from the high post, equals a 60+% scoring shot for the Celts, regardless of any defender, or double team, on him. That's the backup 3 of our dreams!
