“Me and Rondo were talking about a card game where he and I had played,” he said. “That’s what we were talking about and we were poking fun at each other. It wasn’t any argument that we had at all.”

Maxwell told Rondo about the rumors. Both he and the Celtics point guard laughed at the reality of their conversation.

Now that Rondo-gate has been cleared up let the next great Celtic controversy begin  ;D
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

This is funny, because Bill Simmons has said a few times in his articles and podcast that NBA players these days never have real beefs with each other.  Everyone is lovey-dovey.  NO major hate-filled rivalries like oldschool Lakers/Celtics or Celtics/Pistons.  Everyone is friends with everyone.  He said that if you see two players who hate each other (regardless if they are teammates or not)... it's either one of two things.... a dispute over a woman... or a dispute over a card game.   Apparently Simmons was right.

I wasn't sure how serious it was and ultimately felt that it really couldn't of been too serious, but does that explanation sound believable to you?

Either the reporter who wrote that (Gary Dzen) is a total sensationalist or there's something being left out by Max.

I don't know how "harsh words" & "tension in the room" translates into ‘You played the wrong card the other day when we were playing in the card game. It doesn't really matter much now though, even if there was a dust up I'm sure they've kissed & made up by now.

clearly you've never played poker for a high amount of money, me and one of my best friends at school got into a heated argument over a 150 dollarish hand the day after our weekly home game at college, and i would imagine these two were playing for slightly more.

not a big deal IMO.

I bet Rondo has a lot of respect for Maxwell and Maxwell jokes around. I'm sure if they were playing a card game nobody really got angry at each other. Just to have fun and nobody should think there is tension between these two.

They didn't just get finished playing a card game, according to Max they were talking about card game they played 'the other day'. Like I stated, it just doesn't jive - maybe Dzen embellished a bit or isn't used to being in boisterous locker room. Whatever it was, I'm sure it's squashed by now.

thus why i put the next day in my story, we were mad (or rather, he was mad at me) that night, but it was a point of surlyness for a day or two after, then i bought a 12 rack for the weekend and it was coo.

It sounds believable. I think it was just irresponsible journalism by the reporter because it was his subjective opinion that Rondo was not joking and that there was tension in the room. Seemed like sensationalism to me when I read it.

I don't know if it is a darker side, but I believe it was Paul Pierce that said no one liked Rondo during his rookie year.

I was playing a card game known as "guts" with good friends in university (aka ages ago). It's tough to explain how the game works (ok maybe it's not I just don't feel like it ;D) but to make a long story short it became clear to me that I was about to win $750 from a complete stranger (i was friends with everyone at the table BUT HIM) and that the game would consequently be over with. All that happened and the guy made me feel terrible for collecting. I no longer play cards with anyone other than:

a) good friends
b) strong aquaintances
c) online

I'm thinking maybe I missed the big controversy here, like who cares if RR does not like an ex-celtic, current broadcaster who is known for his abbrasiveness and inability to zip it.
This seems to me like mid-season sensationalization.  There is not much to talk about, the pace of games is slowing down for the C's and people are just grasping at straws here.

It's called trash talk.  If one does not know the history, serious junk could be misinterpreted as "harsh words" which they often are, just in ultimate jest even if not said in a lighthearted manner.
