who cares what he does. Cleveland is not the greatest force on earth and we just(should be) better than we were to start the season. I think too many are afraid of cleveland just because we lost to them and barley beat them in the first game. We still have to capacity to play lights out d and we will see that again in the playoffs.

Smith doesn't want to play for Boston.  He'd rather go to Cleveland.  If he wanted to go to Boston, he would have sought a buyout when the Celtics wanted/needed him.  The fact that he waited until Cleveland wanted him before he sought a buyout is telling (like I said in my previous post).

Is he so much better than it'd be worth risking not signing an additional big man for the playoffs? I have my doubts. Besides back channels in the NBA among GMs and agents are pretty strong. If the Celtics truly were going to get Joe Smith we'd have waited for the buyout to get done. He is going to Cleveland and he was always heading there.

well i don't agree. i think that Danny didn't want to lose Mikki like you are saying, but even Mikki said he was close to going to Dallas....

i think DA prioritized Mar and thought Mikki was better than nothing....

personally, i think that when you combine the amount better Smith is than Moore with the fact that signing Smith would also keep him away from CLE you have a nice balance shift in our direction...

yeah because like i argued previously, if that scenario had happened i would have then gone after Horry or even Pollard...

I hope Joe Smith doesn't goto Cleveland.  That will make them even deeper and more dangerous than they already are.  So the C's can't afford to sign J. Smith now?  I would have liked to see Marbur + Smith on the Celtics.  If Tony Allen is hurt yet again, can't we just cut him and sign Smith once he gets a buyout?

Joe Smith could be just days away from providing the Cavaliers with a needed talent injection.

Multiple league sources said on Saturday that Smith and the Oklahoma City Thunder are making progress in buyout talks and there is a favorable chance the sides will come to an agreement by Sunday's midnight waiver deadline. It has also become clear that the Cavs would be Smith's top choice if all the terms can be agreed on.

If all the hurdles can be cleared, Smith would be put on waivers on Monday and become an outright free agent by Wednesday morning.

As for Smith, he and the Thunder have been exchanging some figures for the last several days. Insiders have indicated Thunder General Manager Sam Presti has been showing some reluctance and has driving a hard bargain.

Smith is still owed about $1.3 million of his $4.8 million salary this season by Oklahoma City. However, there are some indications the Thunder are looking for Smith to give up that amount and perhaps more, which may be what has been stalling the talks.
