I know people on here don't like WEEI, but I'm curious about those of you that do like it. How do WEEI fans feel about this article?

Boston.com:
Quote
We don't change the station, and so the station sees no need to change. Ratings are huge, possibly even as huge as the station claims. Its primary demographic has tremendous appeal to advertisers. And New England’s fanatical dedication to the professional sports teams that the station’s hosts bloviate about in four-hour blocks is seemingly endless. And so there you have it: WEEI. Your sports-radio leader. A perfect storm of arrogance. What’s that adage about pompous silver-spooners? He was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple? That fits certain WEEI hosts as comfortably as a Bloomin’ Onion–stained Tommy Bahama shirt. They think the station’s success somehow reflects on them, that we tune in for their shrill banter, contrived characters, and prefabricated opinions. We don’t — never have, never will. We listen because we love sports, our beloved teams are enjoying a remarkable run of success, and WEEI happens to have both access and broadcast rights. Most of all, we listen because there is no other decent local alternative with a signal stronger than that of a ham radio.

Agree 100%, but they forgot to add that the morning show is racist.

I only listen to the radio when I'm in the car.  I will occasionally listen to WEEI, but before 10 am and after 4:00 pm I listen to ESPN.  Lew and Mike are vastly superior to the Big Show: more intelligent, more informed.

Not questioning your position, just curious.

Yup.  Absolutely agree.  I do like Dale & Holley...I think they tend to lean much more towards the spots info side and less towards the entertainment side than any of the regular shows on the station.

But I do listen when I'm in the car (which isn't that much).

Their transgressions aside, I'm excited that starting March WEEI will be broadcating on 96.1 FM on Cape Cod.  The AM reception has always been awful.  It'll be nice to hear all the yapping on clear stereo.

Yup

I only listen to some podcasts of the Callahan show here and there. I don't care for most of sports they talk about, but there's a sense of freedom and political incorrectness I like. Sometimes I wonder for how long the totalitarian minds will allow them to keep doing the show.

They can do it forever so long as I don't have to listen.

Well, the authors are a) white and b) make fun of some leftist points of view, therefore they're racists.

Oh please.  You might want to explain why they were suspended for two months by WEEI's "leftist" management.  It had something to do with a comparison of Blacks to gorillas or chimpanzees, although I do not recall the exact quote.

Their stances and very common remarks regarding gays is abominal as well. I don't understand how they haven't been suspended for some of those comments as well.

Yeah, the D&C show is definitely racist.  Callahan is the worst.  Just terrible!

Listening to people screaming over one another hardly qualifies as "good" programming. As nick stated, I don't care if they talk politics but as if the METCO thing wasn't bad enough their homophobia is astounding. T&R is much better for nonPC fun.

I have no problem admitting that i listen to WEEI frequently and absolutely LOVE D&C in the morning.  I listen to them every day on my commute.

I understand why a lot of people might not like them - specifically Callahan.  They're very opinionated and make no secret of their republican allegiances; however, anytime ANYONE challenges Callahan's views he always backs his opinions up with facts.

As far as the whole racist assertion, i know that they were both suspended for two weeks for comparing a METCO student to an escaped gorilla from a zoo.  I don't really know when this was nor did i hear the conversation, so i won't try to defend them here, all i'll say is that sometimes their tounge-in-cheek exchanges can sometimes come off as offensive if viewed in a certain way.

Say what you will, but both of these individuals are two of the most informed voices on radio and in the Boston media in general.  Very few programs in the country can blend coverage of sports talk and real world news so seamlessly.  Maybe you don't agree with their opinions, but that's what makes their program so popular and polarizing.  If you want to listen to a program that panders to it's entire audience and tries to make friends with every caller, try Finneran's forum; i'm sure you and the other 14 listeners will have a great time.
