I can't blame him for throwing a few down after losing to the Clippers.  No excuse for getting behind the wheel though.  Thank God we've got Marbury coming in, Pruitt probably won't see the court the rest of the season.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

Like you guys never made a mistake when you were 22...some people need to get off their high horses.

I don't think many of us were in a position that Pruitt was in, where he could be losing so much by making such a dumb mistake.

He does not have a guaranteed contract next year, and he already was somewhat buried on the C's bench, before they signed Marbury.  Now they have even less use for him.

Not to mention the fact that C's ownership have very little tolerance for things like this, as was demonstrated with Telfair and Greene.

This guy is dangerously close to blowing his chance to be an NBA player.  He should not be giving them any other reasons to cut him.

Yes he made a mistake.  But it was a big one.  At this point, I view it as an internal matter for the team, and I hope and trust they deal with it sternly, quickly, compassionately and appropriately.

Most of the people on this board, at age 22, didn't have a $700,000 salary, more than enough to hire a driver.  Further, most weren't in high-profile positions in which they were subject to negative publicity reflecting on both themselves and their employers.

What Pruitt did was exceptionally stupid, and since he's a nobody on the team, I could see the Celts using this as an excuse to cut ties with him.

I assure you, if i made 700k a year and knew my entire future making a huge amount of money was tied to my image, i would spend the 20 bucks on a cab.

22 is not 16. it fustrates me how we have this new "hey, he/she is just a kid! lay off!" that now seems to extend until your in your 30's.

22 is plenty old enough to know you probley shouldn't drive drunk.

I can remember making mistakes at 22. Hell, even at 24 I still make mistakes. However, none of my mistakes have placed another person in harm's way.

And has anyone been to LA? It's impossible to hail a cab there. This whole ordeal just sucks because he has a driver when he drinks in Boston.

Gabe's still a good kid. Tough to make decisions impaired.

Absolutely, 100% not an excuse.  If you don't think he could have called for a car, your kidding yourself.  It was a dumb, dumb decision.  It doesn't mean he is a bad kid, but it does mean he made a terrible decision that may have put his young career in jeopardy.

I'm pretty sure that it's not that hard for a guy of Pruitt's means to make arrangements for a driver, especially in his home town.

I have no idea if Pruitt is a good kid or not.  He made a stupid decision, though.  In terms of making decisions impaired, that's why you commit yourself to not drinking and driving *before* you go out.

Sorry, but most of you have very little perspective.

Yes, it was stupid.  Thank goodness he didn't hurt anyone.  He was stopped and he'll take his punishment.

I seem to remember Paul Pierce being pulled over this summer.  And he's a lot older, a father and should know better also.

I seem to remember last year's MVP being arrested for assault.

I seem to remember MJ having some major gambling problems.

etc.

Yes, these are all great players, and Gabe is simply trying to stay in the league.  It's certainly not smart.

I think the Celtics will evaluate him based on potential.  If they like the kid, they'll keep him and tell him not to do it again.  If they were looking for an excuse to cut him, they'll use this as a reason.  It has more to do with playing ability (e.g. Pierce, Bryant, MJ) than whether you commit a stupid act off the court.

Last night's effort was indeed pathetic.  No leadership.  Rondo, House, Pruitt, Pierce etc. -- everyone seemed really out of sorts.  I wonder if they were all kind of depressed about the potential arrival of Marbury.  To me, it looked like they were sulking on the court from the get-go -- a complete turnaround from Denver.

Reading between the lines, it doesn't seem to me that PP, RA and others are all that thrilled with Marbury coming.  When you feel the need to publicly state in advance that a guy needs to completely change his game and get with the program to fit in or he'll be gone, it's like he's coming in on a very short leash.  He will need to make a complete transformation.

I don't think they'll cut him, but this will have to come into play when making decisions about next year.  It was easy to get rid of Orien, the team wasn't going anywhere and it wasn't that hard to see that he didn't belong in the NBA.  Even though he's not that good, Pruitt's shown a lot more on the court than Orien ever did, and given the uncertaities regarding Starbury they won't just get rid of him.  Won't save them a dime.

It's unfortunate, but there are lots of players in the league who have made similar mistakes.  I'd expect that they'll suspend him for a game or two.  He wasn't going to play anyway.  If he screws up again, he goes, but assuming that he hasn't messed up like this before (that hasn't been made public) I bet they'll be more concerned that he learns from this.

It was totally stupid for him to do, but just look at what happend to Richardson in Phoenix; suspended what, one game?  Nothing else?  Now, that's the difference between being a star and being a scrub, but we're fighting for a title and there's a basketball reason to keep him around.
