I'm thinking that two things are happening with the Moore signing.(if it pans out)

1. We are not waiting around for Joe Smith.  We are looking for team chemistry to develop with Moore now.  If smith becomes available, we can cut Walker/Giddens or even Moore?  But with KG out we needed to make a move ASAP?

2.  With the moore signing Can we asume that Doc/Danny feel comfortable Scal can fill in AT THE SF position for Paul?? If so does that also mean we are now on the look out for a servicable PG back up.  (B Jackson, Cassel or Starbury)

I just eally think this moore signing is a bandaide for KG being hurt and our team needed a energy boost.  Some one excitted to play for Boston and try to win a ring.  I'm thinking Scal has earned more minutes and the SF void is becoming less important than PG and C.

So my question is this...is this signing more of a insurance policy that we do not get Smith, or that KG is hurt and we needed length ASAP?

I don't see how you can jump to the conlusion that signing a position of need means that Scal is earning trust as a SF, when he has been mainly playing PF for us.

Two things:

1) Scal has Doc's trust, but not at SF. That's not his position. Why? Did you see what Grant Hill did to him yesterday?

2) In response to you're final question, I'll answer neither. While I hope that Moore is just an insurance policy in case we don't sign Smith, I highly doubt that that is the case. In all likelihood, Moore will be the only big man the Celtics will sign this year, because Danny already knows that Smith is not going to sign with Boston. Also, we did not need anything ASAP. The Celtics are not concerned with finding a guy to fill in for KG for a couple of weeks. That would be a huge waste of money, because the Celtics have proven that they can survive and win games without KG for a few weeks. The Celtics signed Moore because they need another big for the playoffs, and not because KG is hurt.

oh doc definitely trusts scal.. way too much. too bad scal did'nt work out hard in the off season. we actually need him this time around. those extra lbs don't help his foot speed so he can't stay with 3's. thanks a lot, scal.

Scal absolutely has Doc's trust - there's a reason he's backed him all these years no matter how he was playing, and a reason he starts when KG or (sometimes) Perk is down.

But yeah, I don't know that he'll come in at 3, unless it's an extreme circumstance.  Moore, if we get him, will give us that flexibility, but the matchup problems will be too much to see Scal outside the 4 much.

Something I noticed last game - Scal and PP have surprisingly similar builds.  I don't think Scal's as out of shape as he looks in uniform, I just think he's a slow guy.  And he's still contributed positively to the team when he's played important minutes - I trust him more than whichever of BBD/Powe has decided to suck that night.

I couldn't disagree with this post more. First off, how do you how hard Scal worked in the off season? That he didn't is quite the assumption. Scal is 6'9''. It's hardly uncommon for a 6'9'' guy not to be able to stay with 3s. Perk is 6'10''. Can he guard 3s? Is he out of shape or just naturally not quick enough? Is Powe, who's probably 6'7'' or even 6'6'', out of shape because he can't stay with 3s?

i'm going by the extra fat on his body. i'm not poking fun here. he absolutely could be thinner/in better shape. his body is exactly the same if not bigger than when he first became a celtic.

Again, is it uncommon for players to look a little bigger when they get older? Scal's body type is Scal's body type. I'm not sure why you're so concerned about it. Like fairweatherfan said, it's actually similar to Pierce's, if you think about it. One of the basic things that you learn in high school health class is that appearance doesn't necessarily correlate to being in shape.

Above all, the thing that I don't get about you're argument is that Scal does not play the 3, nor do the Celtics want him to. So it is a non-issue that he can't stick with 3s, because he's not even a 3.

i've heard the argument "some guys are just built a certain way blah blah". yeah to a degree. you can absolutely drastically change your build, get leaner, more cut etc. he has all the resources to really work at this, his diet etc. i have no problam with how scal hustles during the season. he does a commendable job. but it's obvious he is'nt super commited in the off season. it does'nt make him a bad guy. on the contrary, people seem to like him. he's probably a GREAT person. but nobody will ever convince me this guy follows a strict diet and work out regimen in the off season. no way. and i think if he did he would really see the results. i think it would really benefit the team. i think he would already have a spot solidified awhile ago.

I think Scal not only has Docs confidence, but also he has more self confidence than ever before. He had some swagger yesterday.....In Basketball, confidence counts a lot...! His body....he could get more muscle, that is for sure....Ever see Rodman's legs (NOT IN NYLONS!!!) major league muscle. In pro sports you have to maximize what body type you have. He (and BBD) need to work on that body....as for BBD, WHEN will he lose that weight...? Take his KFC card away (KFC Taco Bell!)Dagg!.
