It is now probably time for everyone to acknowledge that Danny should have signed Mutumbo.

Very true. Amazing bad decision.

If it were Mikki on Cleveland in last year's playoffs instead of Joe Smith, we'd probably be amped for this signing.

Color me excited!!!

Well, what if it were Mikki on the Lakers in last year's playoffs instead of Pau Gasol?! Or Mikki on San Antonio instead of Duncan, how amped would we be?!

ugh
Thanks for the mix of every shot of his career.
I don't see this helping the C's very much at all.
Practice? Whatchu talkin about practice?

Pau does however like to shoot the hook shot which BBD and Powe can not defend due to their  short stature. Mikki will at least force Pau to shoot it a little higher and have a chance at getting him out of his groove a bit that neither of the other two could. If Pau decides to go at the rim harder then Mikki is no match strength wise.

For some reason that made me smile.

On a serious note, I completely agree with the idea that Mikki could bother Pau, or other "outside shooting" bigs that the Cs might play (Rasheed, Z).
Celtics fan for life.

This is good news. It gives us something we did not have. Back up center. Loads of energy off the bench. A little chip on the shoulder. I like this guy he's a pest and he plays hard.

This year Mutombo has grabbed 7 rebounds and blocked 2 shots. I think he's done.

The C's style of defense demands mobility - especially on pick and rolls. Mutombo wouldn't fit well on this team. Plus, there is no way he is going to be able to guard Pau or Z.

Might as well sign a 7 footer with a pulse that is a proven jump shooter.

Moore always played well against us when he was with the nets.
Maybe being on a bad team killed his motivation. this move could revamp his desire to play hard and get back to the level he was at while he was with the Nets.
I for one like the deal. It could be a lot worse i think..

from seeing the little video of Mikki he looks like a Euro big to me, a great jumper but nothing inside.

I think that is right.  He will probably play PF and Powe/BBD Center.  I am not *that* worried by Moore's inability to grab a rebound -- Leon does a pretty good job of that, as do other people on the team.  Over the next few games, we'll see what Moore can do.  Assuming Smith is not bought out, worst case scenario is Moore gets 0PT in games.
I actually think that the consistent jumper is MORE important than toughness.  Our problem with the current bench is not on the defensive end, it is on the offensive end.  With BBD and Powe, teams could simply dare BBD to shoot.  And we all know he can't shoot.  Having a big who is decent shooter will make a big difference.

This year Mutombo is still in the pre-season. If PJ Brown was a good fit last season, so would Mutombo be. Deke is the more mobile and quick of the two.

People care too much about height. Moore may be a 7footer, but he doesn't play like one. I'd rather have a guy 1 inch shorter at the top of his head but that can actually grab rebounds and alter shots.

If Smith does get bought out; what prevents us from signing him?
We don't need starbury...sure we're a bit weak at the point, but Rondo proves he can play.
More minutes=more experience=A higher confidence level.
If Rondo is control of the game, then we don't have a chance of losing.

Anyways, I hope Smith gets bought out and we sign him.
Maybe drop BBD, I think Powe is a much more physically minded player, and fits in better with the Celtics options.
So with Smith, Powe, Moore, and Scal as our backup bigs we're good.

I'm very happy. If there was no "talk" of Joe Smith, then nobody would be complaining. Mikki is a high energy guy, that will fit in very well with our bench.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Dikembe wanted to go back to the Rockets.

Mutombo is more mobile and faster than PJ Brown?? Granted we're comparing 2 very slow players. But i disagree.

And I agree about the 1" shorter bit. But I don't see any 6'11" defensive beasts out there. Our backup bigs are 6-6 (Baby), 6-7 (Powe) and 6-9 (Scal). We're not talking about an 1" of difference here. It is more like 4 or more. Thats huge.

Moore is a good insurance signing. They need height with a jump shot in the 2nd unit. Its painful to watch 5 undersized guys not being able to get a good shot off. The Celtics clearly have their sights set on more with the remaining roster spot. Lets see who else joins in on the fun. :)
