so what are we dealing with here? worst case is season...best case few weeks or games??
Best case is a week probably to rest it and it is nothing serious. Maybe offseason scope to clean up the knee.

Worst case is microfracture surgery.

No worst case is ligament damage.
Maybe, if this was the first time his knee had been an issue I would think ligament damage is the only worry we have. But his knee has been hurting him almost the whole year. He's had braces of different kinds on it and said himself many time "my knee is sore". KG also has had a noticeable limp at times after playing.

A lot could be going on in the knee right now, we just don't know. I personally tink MF surgery at KGs age is the worst case.

they don't know what it is until the MRI...strain is just a generic term to keep the media and fans at bay

Yeah, unfortunately this is true.  Bynum's injury was originally called a "right knee strain".  Ugh.

Worst case is microfracture surgery.

Faf, are you saying this is a bone on bone/cartilage situation by suggesting micro surg? If so, are there reports on this?

Or are you just looking at Micro as a worst case scenario in general for knee problems?

I'm very curious if this is a ligament tear/sprain or bone/cartilage situation. Ligament would be better it seems because those bone on bone situations just linger....

They said "strain" which about the least informative way to describe what is going on with the knee...
I'm looking at his continued knee problems this year as indicating there might be ongoing bone on bone, or other damage to his knee.

From there MF surgery is the worst case overall from that sort of knee problem. Obviously ligament tears would also be awful, but MF is worse to my knoweledge.

I have heard nothing to indicate this other than the chatter about his knee though. This is just my personal speculation.

TP for Roy...exactly what I thought about when I heard strain and MRI in Boston. I think he has been playing with a strain/sprained knee since december and last night might have done some further damage to that knee...i am trying to remain positive but man o man...the loss last night sucked but this is torture

Get well KG. Take your time getting back. Your health is way more important than home court advantage.

My gut feeling is that this is precautionary, and he'll be back in 2 weeks.

We might be in deep trouble. But at least KG didn't land on anyone.

yeah, this is my sense and fear also....since it has been a lingering problem, "strain" doesn't seem to fit.

I'm worried that the sharp pain he got last night was not so much an injury but situation that when you have little cartilage left in the knee sometimes you land on it and the bones just come together and the pain is excruciating....

It's about time Boston has to suffer through some injuries to their big time players like the Cavs had.   :)

Hopefully this isn't a season ending injury for KG.  You never want to see someone get hurt

Yeah, unfortunately this is true.  Bynum's injury was originally called a "right knee strain".  Ugh.

Yeah, but KG was able to put weight on it immediately after the injury (only for 1 step, and he didn't want to do it again, but the knee held) and was moving fairly normally at halftime warmups.  There's no way this is as bad as Bynum's injury.

I lean towards what others are saying - KG's had problems with the knee all year and it caught up with him.  He hadn't played in a real NBA game in a week, and when the body hasn't experienced that kind of high-intensity, high-impact movement in awhile, bad things are more likely to happen.

That's true, but Bynum didn't exactly come out at half time, dribble the ball around, and then walk off under his own power either.  I don't see the comparison...

That's not the right comparison there.  The appropriate question would be when did Z get injured?

Pierce is your Lebron

Uh, KG is infinitely more valuable to Boston than Z is to Cleveland.

The beauty of the Celtics is that we DON'T have a Lebron.  Not that it wouldn't hurt to lose Pierce or Garnett, but the effect on this team would be much less devastating than Cleveland losing Lebron...Anyway you slice it neither teams a contender without their top dogs though.
