until all this settles and we use these two roster spots we have open, who is the 4th man off the bench?

Eddie, BBD, Powe and then...

Does Doc use a short bench or does Gabe or Walker get some good minutes?

I really hope Gabe gets some solid mpg's.  I'm a huge Gabe supporter and would love to see him take advantage of this time to show his worth and potential.

I think Doc trusts Pruitt the most, so it'll be him for now.

Although I'd like to see Gabe get time I think if Walker managed to come into his own a bit through more playing time his abilities would be more helpful to the team.

yeah, I agree. I like Gabe too, but a defensive wing seems like a more important role for us to groom someone for with TA down.

and that is the one position that we really aren't hearing decent buyout options at.....

but i also agree that Doc probably trusts Gabe more than Bill. So i will be very interested to see which way he goes.

I don't like Gabe.  Nothing personal, but I don't see how getting him experience helps this team.  As Doc (or maybe it was Danny) already said, Pruitt is a good perimeter defender, but really too small to cover most of the good wings we'll have to face in the playoffs.  If that's the case, he'll have to play PG to get minutes.  Does anyone really expect him to even beat out House for that job?  Factor in that Marbury could come here and there's really no shot.  And don't give me the absurd idea of House and Pruitt in the same backcourt; it works in the regular season against crap teams with crap benches; however, it will not work in the playoffs against strong teams, with strong swingmen, and strong benches.  I can see it now: Eddie House (or Pruitt) guarding LeBron James.

I'd much rather see Walker or Giddens out there.  It's a long shot, but they have the physical ability to guard the swingmen we'll face in each round of the playoffs.

Giving Walker minutes sound great, but they'd only do it if they knew Walker could develop into a reliable playoff contributor in a couple of months. I'm thinking that Doc doesn't have that level of confidence in Walker. Doc knows the team better than anyone - I'm not sure I could second guess him on that front.

Pruitt will probably get the minutes. Maybe Scal.

I'd like to see Walker out there, but I believe Doc trusts Pruitt more. Pruitt will play major minutes (15-20) until Scal is healthy.

While I'm hopeful that some of our younger players will see some court time (thereby getting some experience and also letting our rotation players get some rest), home court advantage in the playoffs is going to be crucial. We need to win as many games as possible here on out.

I guess Im the only one that thinks none of the minutes will change.  Going back to his ankle injury, we've basically been without TA for a while now and nothings really seemed to change as far as the bench goes.

That being said, Id love to see Walker get some minutes, especially if Ainge is confident Marbury will be coming.

I actually agree, sort of - I think we need to see if Gabe, Walker or Giddens can guard the other team's best swing for 2,3, 4 minutes at a time - if they can, they'll get instant playoff minutes - even if Starbury/Moore/Shawn Kemp/Luc Longley, whoever come here, we need a backup swingman with some size and athleticism on D who can play in the team D concept - if Tony doesn't come back, or if he's slow to come back, those minutes will be there - otherwise we'll need to sign someone to fill that role, not sure who at this pt though....

Defintely Scal.  In fact, I think he should play more than BBD.

The more I think about it, the more I think Tony Allen's health is going to be the biggest factor out of all the current "unknowns" come playoff time. We absolutely need him to be healthy.

I think it makes homecourt all the more important too. As of right now, Allen's timetable is basically right around the start of the playoffs. It would sure be nice to have the #1 seed and have a relative patsy in the first round (unlike last year) to give Allen another week or so to get back at it. Of course, I keep forgetting that Allen's injury is a finger on his non-shooting hand. He can still run and stay relatively sharp while he's recuperating. He ought to be fine come playoff time.
