I don't think there's a thread talking about the possible candidates so I thought I'd start one here to make it easier to discuss things.

Joe Smith, Sam Cassell, Stephon Marbury, Calvin Booth, Malik Rose have all been touted as potential buyouts. Is Tim Thomas likely to be bought out?

Who else would you want that could possibly be bought out?

Tim Thomas won't be bought out as his contract is 13 million over the next two years and he becomes a good trading chip next year as well as a massive cap relief for the free agency extravaganza in 2010.

The Thunder have no depth on the wing. I think they need to play Chucky in a two point guard backcourt for the time being. I don't expect him to get bought out.

Damien Wilkins and Kyle Weaver should get most of the minutes at the 2 for them. Both have a greater chance of figuring into the future of the club than Atkins does.

No mention of Marbury.

I thought that. I think he'll be bought out though.

I have to say though, if KG's injury is as bad as I fear, then I don't care who we sign, there's no title coming to Boston.

I don't think it's that bad, at least not so bad that the season is over.  He was walking on it after all.

at center: first and foremost it's joe smith. after that i'd be interested in chris mihm if he gets bought out, then miki moore...

at guard: chucky atkins would be a much better pickup then marburry or j will. he is a smart experienced floor general who could keep the second unit in line... think he would jump at the chance to play with the big three. bobby jackson may be an option, more of a scorer then atkins...

Can Atkins even be counted on to stay healthy for a playoff push?  I'm not confident in that.  I wouldn't want to pass up Williams, Marbury, Cassell for a guy who has a good chance of going to the injured list.  But I agree that Atkins can play.

With 2 spots open, I would go for Joe Smith and Bobby Jackson. Both are good defenders, and it gives us veteran depth at both positions. With Pruitt's inconsistency, Jackson could take over as backup PG so House can continue to spot up for 3's, and Smith could pick up the slack of inconsistent Powe and BBD. When KG is back our lineup would be.

Rondo - Jackson
Ray - House
Pierce - Tony
KG - Joe - Powe
Perk - Scal - BBD

Pruitt, Walker, and Giddens can all go back inactive so we can defend a title.
Can't stop, Rondo!

The deal to acquire Thabo Sefolosha helps make Chucky Atkins expendable. I disagree that they had enough on the wings to waive him prior to that. The club clearly isn't comfortable playing those two wings major minutes.

I still don't think they'll waive him, but there's a decent enough shot now that Thabo is down there. Sefolosha is a legit 30 minute a game talent.
