Kyle (Cleveland): Will the Cavs have a new player at 3:01 P.M.??

Chad Ford: (12:02 PM ET ) The biggest rumor out there right now has the Cavs discussing a trade for Shaq with the Phoenix Suns. Sources have confirmed the talks. The Cavs sound interested in a deal that would send Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic back to Phoenix. The Suns would obviously prefer that Wally Szczerbiak be in the deal. Either way it gets the Suns under the luxury tax threshold next season.

If they could get Shaq for Wallace and Pavlovic, that would be scary.

Is Shaq even that much better than Big Z?

He's harder to stop down low, and the real question is, is he better than Ben Wallace?  The answer to that is clearly, yes.

Well Joe Smith isn't as good as KG, but we'd sure like to have him, wouldn't we?  Shaq wouldn't be taking Z's place.  He'd be taking Wallace's place.  And he's definitely better than Big Ben.  One of the Cavs' big problems offensively has been the post game.  Shaq would help that a lot.

the cavs are close to panic mode at this point to get anything done

Could Shaq and Big Z play alongside one another?

They'd be pretty slow defensively, and take up a huge amount of room offensively which isn't ideal for a slasher like LeBron.

Anyway, I don't think there is anything to this rumour.

The Cavs should be panicking. This is a brilliant opportunity for them to hugely improve their odds of winning a Championship and they've wasted this opportunity for about two months now. Foolishness from the front office.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
looks like they've hit a snag...

cleveland wants to get rid of wallace's contract, but phoenix wants wally's expiring contract instead.  i bet this doesn't get done unless the cav's get desperate.

Wow, that would be nuts. Lebron would have to get used to jumpshooting more (and slashing less).

The big fella clogs the lane. There would be a big adjustment... Lebron needs big shooters around him. Z, Smith and Wally were pretty awesome in the playoffs last year.

I doubt it happens, and i wouldn't be upset if it did.

Cavs won't get desperate, they don't need to.  The cavs aren't the team looking to cut salary for next year to get under the tax.  Ferry will wait unitl 2:59 and 50 seconds just like last year if needs to.

I would love to know you think they have been foolish.  Ferry has been offering Wally all year.  You need another team to show interest

but if they decide to part with wally and probaby they will , they wil be even scarier
they dont have to play Z and Shaq together
and they will ALWAYS have a big to damage

Really?  Lebron driving and drawing a double team, then dishing the ball to Shaq at the basket doesn't scare you?  It should.

Think of ther biggest weakness in the Cavs offense when Wallace is in.  Teams can leave Wallace to help on defense since Wallace can't even dunk properly anymore.  Shaq eliminates that problem

We're screwed in the conference finals against the Cavs if this deal goes down... You think the league would like to see Shaq vs. Kobe in the Finals? We won't get a single [dang] call.
"Let me call him," Floyd said.

The man shook his head. "O.J. doesn't give out his cell," he said. "He'll call you."
